mils on mn sometimes turn the water works to guilt trip, and are known dc do it, but what about mners ? are you guilty of this ? must admit i've had the odd moment, but it's never been anything serious. my dm has been an expert in the past although i trained her by ignoring the very obvious crocodile tears so she doesn't do it now. if she gets upset it is the real deal and i'm sympathetic. so what about you ?

Never. It's pathetic.

SemperIdem · 02/12/2018 21:38

No, never. Crying is not something I do easily, lightly or to manipulate others.

mortifiedmama · 02/12/2018 21:39

No. And I don't stand for it with others, including my 2yo.

BestZebbie · 02/12/2018 21:39

No, because I'm no longer a toddler!

ModreB · 02/12/2018 21:39

Nope. never. If I want to do something my own way, I do it. My DM has tried the wailing, and I just ignore her.

mistywintermorning · 02/12/2018 21:40

Not on purpose Grin

SilverDoe · 02/12/2018 21:40

I cry easily and at silly things as I’m quite sensitive emotional.

I’d never turn it on as it’s manipulative and gross. Not okay with it and IMO it’s also painfully obvious if you are doing it anyway so what would be the point, even if it wasn’t morally suspect.

VictoryOrValhalla · 02/12/2018 21:41

What? No. Adults actually do that?

BettyOBarley · 02/12/2018 21:41

No way, but then I don't cry at all tbh or very very rarely.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 02/12/2018 21:42

God no, it's a revolting trait and I despise folk who use that tactic (unless they're 3 and even then I'd frown).

My MIL cries a lot when she can't get her own way. I'm dead inside because it does nothing but make me more resolute.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 02/12/2018 21:42

No MNer would ever admit to it!

lovetherisingsun · 02/12/2018 21:42

My mum does. Not so much to get her own way, but she'll cry if I even so much as hint at how shitty and nasty she is being. I hate it.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 02/12/2018 21:42

No, never. It's what toddlers do, not adults.

ILoveDolly · 02/12/2018 21:43

No, I am not 5. If I cry through frustration or anger at a situation it is because of the way I'm feeling, I don't expect the other person to change their opinion or behavior

Racecardriver · 02/12/2018 21:44

No. It’s doesn’t actually work. It just pisses people off. If you cry and get your own way it’s because the people you’ve been trying to manipulate you have decided to humour you rather than because you have succeeded.

Knittink · 02/12/2018 21:44

God no. Manipulative and pathetic. I think I've cried about 4 or 5 times in my adult life, and I'm 47.

Fadingmemory · 02/12/2018 21:44

No. Reasoned argument every time. If that doesn’t work, I accept the situation.

Bunnybigears · 02/12/2018 21:45

God no! Plus I find it impossible to cry on demand.

ShinyTooth · 02/12/2018 21:46

What? No. I hate people seeing me cry.

tuttifritti · 02/12/2018 21:47

No, my DM and DSis do it and it really grates on me. I used to be manipulated and try to make it better now I tend to ignore it.

Stormwhale · 02/12/2018 21:47

No, because I am not three years old.

FrowningFlamingo · 02/12/2018 21:47

No, although I recently did something really stupid and broke something expensive, cried out of frustration with myself (currently pregnant) and DH immediately forgave me and made me a cup of tea. So I might utilise the tactic on purpose in future Grin (joking, before I am pounced on)

treaclesoda · 02/12/2018 21:47

No, I very rarely cry full stop.

When I was younger and suffering from untreated depression I used to cry really easily and I hated it because I know that people see it as being manipulative, and I but at that stage in my life I just couldn't control it. I hated myself for letting people see me cry, and which of course was then a vicious cycle.

Singlenotsingle · 02/12/2018 21:48

I can't cry. The last time I remember crying was ten years ago. I'm just not an emotional person, which is a fault but I don't care Hmm

treaclesoda · 02/12/2018 21:48

My phone keeps putting extra words into my posts Hmm
