To need teething help please!

Can anyone please advise if there is anything I can buy for teething that actually works!

My 5 month old little girl is really suffering and chewing the hand off herself constantly. She’s usually such a happy thing but is biting and crying constantly and I don’t know what else I can try.

So far have used

Bonjela gel- doesn’t help

Dentinox gel- same no effect

2 different types of teething powders recommended to me by a pharmacist- no good

Various teething toys - some put in the freezer,
Seems to aggravate her more!

Calpol and ibuprofen do help/ but I don’t want to drug her up constantly!

Anything I’m missing?!

Thank you in advance!

Rub your fingers across her gums, my little one absolutely loved that, umm not sure if the powders you used were called ‘Ashton & Parsons’ but I swore by them with my little one teething. X

Anbesol worked for me, hope it helps Smile

Imknackeredzzz · 02/12/2018 19:58

Hmmm don’t know if it was Ashton’s powders but will check, do you rub some on gums or just dissolve all in mouth?

You can buy Anbesol over the counter. Calpol is literally the only thing that helps my dd but like you I feel like I don't want to keep drugging her up. The last pharmacist I spoke to said if it's the only thing that helps just give her it, but I do feel awful doing it. I try to only give her it at bed if she's really bad. She's just turned 1 and we seem to be going through a really bad teething phase again the last few days Sad

BlueThesaurusRex · 02/12/2018 20:00

Anbesol liquid. It’s the best!

Imknackeredzzz · 02/12/2018 20:03

Princess- it’s so hard isn’t it!

Ashton parsons regularly and cold things like teething rings in the fridge

snowone · 02/12/2018 20:06

Anbesol and ibuprofen worked for us! Paracetamol just didn't seem to do the same job! Good luck OP

NoWittyNamesAvailable · 02/12/2018 20:06

Anbesol liquid here too. Its the only thing that has worked for my children, you can buy it in the pharmacy.

Imknackeredzzz · 02/12/2018 20:08

Thanks everyone will try and get anbesol tmr!

Can I ask reference the powders - how do u use them? I’ve had conflicting advice. Some say just tip into mouth- some say rub a little on gums first? How’s everybody doing it?

Anbesol liquid, monkey chew toy and a single dose of ibuprofen (nurofen) on nights when it's too painful for him to have his final feed before sleep.

The gels and powders are ok for mild pain, but don't last long enough and don't touch the sides when it's bad.

MRex · 02/12/2018 20:10

Ashton & Parsons I rub on his gums as though it's cocaine, he likes it.

dolly92x · 02/12/2018 20:22

Rubbing on the gums works so much better with the powders, as tipping in mouth sometimes doesn’t get the ‘spot’ x

Bringbackbertha · 02/12/2018 20:26

Can try and Amber bracelet. Didn't work for mine but friends had success with it.

I just tipped the powder in and it gives some relief

A dummy... mine just chews on hers including the hard bit

You can get these net things with a handle. Put a frozen strawberry or similar in it for them to munch on.

Remember it's only a short time while the chemicals in the mouth dissolve the gum for the tooth to come through.

If you do Calpol and ibuprofen then stagger them so do one then 2 hours later do the other so they have something in the system to dull the pain

RibenaMonsoon · 02/12/2018 20:28

DS teethed so badly that ibuprofen was all that really touched the sides when it came to getting to sleep. There was one thing I bought that was amazing for during the day.

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00KFP6NHO/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ref=plSrch&keywords=nuby+lolly+moulds&dpPl=1&dpID=51aJ%2B5XQkVL&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1543782152&sr=8-1

Initially I froze breast milk in them. I don't know if you can freeze formula but after they start weaning you can freeze fruit purees and yogurt in them too. Which is awesome. Lovely big handles for them to hold as well.

I hope it all gets better soon. Teething is horrible. Flowers

zeddybrek · 02/12/2018 20:34

Anbesol and Ashton's powder every 2 hours to begin with.

namechange1984 · 02/12/2018 20:35

Mine loved a wooden spoon (we cut the arm off and filed it so she wouldn't choke), not sure why but it helped. Toast crusts also good and non-opened ice pops or frubes.
