To wonder how preschool should deal with this

2 year old DS has been doing some introduction sessions at our local preschool. The past few times now the same child has attacked him. DS is gentle and placid and was wanting to play alongside this child. The other child instantly attacked DS because he was being territorial over the toys he was playing with.

DS was really upset. He has only just turned 2 and doesn’t understand, and is never violent himself. He has never experience other children being violent before and so isn’t used to it.

I know he needs to learn to manage but am still really worried about him. I have watched the staff intervene and tell the other child that they are not being kind and move them away- but if they continue what sort of escalation should be expected? This approach clearly isn’t working at the minute. The other child is almost 3 and I know it’s fairly normal behaviour, but at the same time I want DS to be safe.
