My nan is late 90s and has a phone line which she never uses.
She only keeps it so my aunt can ring from abroad once a fortnight.
With BT it's costing near £100 a quarter.
I can get a add on to my phone for £10 a month and I could ring my aunt from that.
Would you cancel ?

I would be contacting bt and finding out how to reduce the cost of the line rental. i don't think its safe for her to have no phone. what if she had an accident.

epicclusterfuck · 30/11/2018 18:18

She would also need a phone line if she uses a pendant or bracelet type alarm. There should be cheaper options from BT though e.g. BT basic.

beerandwine · 30/11/2018 18:25

She doesn't use the pendant and she doesn't know how to use the phone anymore unfortunately

Should only be 22 a month for basic phone service. BT. home saver
Bt basic is i think for people on certain benefits

Useful in Emergency

Yutes · 30/11/2018 18:35

£100 a quarter is £25 a month.

PattiStanger · 30/11/2018 18:38

£100 a month is £33.33 a quarter Grin

PattiStanger · 30/11/2018 18:39

Oh no, I've typed the wrong way round, simple maths is confusing us all Grin Grin

Bombardier25966 · 30/11/2018 18:41

Does your nan live alone? What would she do in an emergency?

empmalswa · 30/11/2018 18:42

A quarter is every 3 months. So not £25 a month.

Bombardier25966 · 30/11/2018 18:47

Who does she live with?

Is this the lady that social services think should be in a home?

empmalswa · 30/11/2018 18:52

Oh bloody hell ignore me

beerandwine · 30/11/2018 18:55

I have bought her a cheapy mobile phone.
Only a £10 basic and I've showed her how to dial in emergency....whether she remembers is another thing

Sorry. I divided by 4 but y’all get what I meant

Bombardier25966 · 30/11/2018 19:37

This lady isn't safe to be on her own, is she?

beerandwine · 01/12/2018 15:12

She is safe ..just confused at times.
Hence why I thought the phone was pointless to keep.
