we are off to baby swim this morning with my 2 DC 3 and 1. It can be quite a juggle to get them both ready and them myself all drippy they have those towel capes pool side am thinking of taking my toweling dressing gown to put pool side aswell to just throw on as soon as we get out?

AIBU will i look a twat

Haha yes I'd think that'd look a bit odd but so what, if it's what you want to do.

littlepeas · 30/11/2018 08:50

It’s a bit strange, yes. But if it makes life easier, why not?

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2018 08:51

It might look odd but who cares? Sounds like a good idea, maybe you will start a trend. I hate getting out of the pool and being cold, even if I am just getting myself dressed.

babysharkah · 30/11/2018 08:52

Are you allowed to take them both in with one adult? All the pools around here insist on 1:1 at that age.

Apart from that, yes, you'll look odd but if it makes your life easier why not.

PenelopeFlintstone · 30/11/2018 08:52

Won't it just look like you're at a spa pool? I think it's fine, especially if white towelling.

ClearlyOpaque · 30/11/2018 08:53

I've seen this a few times when I've been swimming. I always think "how sensible".... You won't look like a twat!

Marmite27 · 30/11/2018 08:54

I have a microfibre dressing gown from decathlon for this reason. I strip off, put on robe, dry & dress child and then I’m dry and ready to dress myself.

It was about £10 and folds up small too.

Marmite27 · 30/11/2018 08:55

Obviously I don’t strip off at the side of the pool Grin

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 30/11/2018 08:57

It's the norm here but I don't live in the UK. So style it out. Grin

It's sensible because you're warm and cosy, you dry quicker and it won't slip off and fall in a wet puddle.

Bluerussian · 30/11/2018 08:58

Do what you want. A towelling dressing gown sounds fine to me, it will do at least part of the drying job.

Wish I'd thought of that!

IShitGlitter · 30/11/2018 09:00

at this class its 2 to 1 adult ratio as its a small baby class with 2 life guards and an instructor.

The dressing gown is in the bag sod it!

Do it. My kids all take theirs.

Mesmeri · 30/11/2018 09:02

I don't think that's odd at all. Sounds very practical. Avoids the issue of wanting to dress the baby before yourself, but also not wanting a dry, dressed baby to get wet from your wet swim suit. Also, in many other countries (not so much the UK) it's standard procedure, along with poolside crocs/flip flops.

BuffaloCauliflower · 30/11/2018 09:04

I would think someone very sensible if I saw this

Bumbledop · 30/11/2018 09:07

What a great idea. I wish I had thought of this when my dcs were small! Go for it.

MrsPandaBear · 30/11/2018 09:08

I take mine to our swimmimg lessons as it means I don't get cold while dressing DC, I freeze otherwise and it means I'm essentially dry by the time they are dressed. I've had several people unprompted tell me what a good idea it is, and no strange looks - so I'd definitely go for it.

thedevilinablackdress · 30/11/2018 09:09

What a brilliant idea!

RChick · 30/11/2018 09:09

It's never occurred to me but not you mention it, i think it's a great idea!

avocadoincident · 30/11/2018 09:10

We've recently started baby swimming and I said the same to my partner about how great a dressing gown would be...except I haven't got one so go for it!!!! I'd be envious and walking around in a robe is totally natural in spas (I presume you are going to a leisure centre like I do). Go for it and others may follow your lead and if they don't carry on anyway.

Bluefrontdoor · 30/11/2018 09:11

I always did this when mine were small, though I did wait til I'd gone in the changing room til I took off swim suit then put it on along with a towel hair turban then sorted children, made sure they were all warm dry and dressed gave them a snack and drink and dried myself in relative peace.
All the other mums started doing the same after they spotted me 🤣
Go for it!

Bath9000 · 30/11/2018 09:16

Not at all, I’d think ‘wow what a good idea’

SoupDragon · 30/11/2018 09:22

I always took a dressing gown rather than a towel. I would put it on,sort thekids out and by the time that was done I was dry without having to stop my towel falling down!

NotTheFordType · 30/11/2018 09:23

I'm not understanding this. Are you in the pool with the DC? So on getting out you want to put on an item of clothing which will immediately become damp and need a wash?

Even if you're not in the pool, which gives a false sense of temperature on getting out... it's always so hot in there, how on earth would you stand a dressing gown.

starandson · 30/11/2018 09:25

I’ve seen a few people do this! Good idea when you’ve got little ones to sort out.

diddl · 30/11/2018 09:25

Good idea.

If it's more comfortable-so what if someone thinks that you look daft?

I go to an outdoor pool (May-Sept) & it's quite usual to put a towelling dg on as soon as you get out of the water.
