we are off to baby swim this morning with my 2 DC 3 and 1. It can be quite a juggle to get them both ready and them myself all drippy they have those towel capes pool side am thinking of taking my toweling dressing gown to put pool side aswell to just throw on as soon as we get out?

AIBU will i look a twat

I wouldn’t think you look daft, if I saw that I’d be thinking wow that mum is very well prepared and organised to bring that - go for it

RadicalFern · 30/11/2018 09:32

This is a great idea. So much more sensible than having to try and keep a towel up or being cold when you're dressing the DC. Also, by the time you come to get dressed you'll be almost dry.

Mrspotter12 · 30/11/2018 09:34

Brilliant idea!!!

Hedgehoginthefog · 30/11/2018 09:35

If you were at a fancy spa it would be normal to have a dressing gown waiting and noone would bat an eyelid.

HotInWinter · 30/11/2018 09:36

I'm the owner of something like this.
Not in the UK, but I've been known to walk the 150m from the pool home in it - means I get a proper shower, not the hideous pool ones!

everydaymum · 30/11/2018 09:36

You'll look like twat, but be proud of it! You may see more parents do the same after seeing you do it.

recently · 30/11/2018 09:38

It's the norm here but I don't live in the UK.

Me too. I'd forgotten that nobody in the UK know how to dress at the pool. Wink

I used to do just that when I took DS swimming when he was a baby. When we were out of the pool, I'd put my dressing gown on, get him dry and dressed and put him in the buggy, then sort myself out. I just had a thin cottony one so it wasn't too bulky in the swim bag but it was enough to keep me warm while I dressed DS, then it got washed with the swimming stuff.
Go for it!

SoupDragon · 30/11/2018 09:39

You'll look like twat

Confused why do kids get to have sensible towel things that don't fall down (hooded towels/capes) but an adult would look a twat for wearing a towelling dressing gown?

mumsastudent · 30/11/2018 09:41

if this become a trend (Hey op a trend setter :) ) you might want to write your name on it! :)

Happyandshiney · 30/11/2018 09:44

When my twins were little I akways got them dressed first after swimming and it was a bit difficult to keep them dry while I was dripping all over them.

I started piping in a big T-shirt of DH’s to put in over my costume to keep me warm and catch the drips while I got them changed.

Just thinking about it makes me laugh at all those Tuesday afternoons in a tiny cubical wrangling two wet, giggling three year olds and trying not to drop anyone’s clothes in the floor.

Piping? “Popping in”

bsbabas · 30/11/2018 09:45

That's what toweling dressing gowns are for!

diddl · 30/11/2018 09:45

Would be handy if you take your costume off before putting your dg on.

thenightsky · 30/11/2018 09:45

You won't look like a twat at all. Loads of people at my local pool do it. Its normal round these parts.

PlatypusPie · 30/11/2018 09:49

Why would it look foolish ? It might if it was a frou-frou-frou negligee or a candlewick one like my mother used to wear but a towelling robe is entirely appropriate

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/11/2018 09:56

As it's a towelling one and some big fluffy affair I think it's a great idea.

QueenDramaLlama · 30/11/2018 10:00

But that's what toweling gowns are for? I wouldn't wear one round the house but I'd certainly wear one at a pool. I wouldn't have even thought about weird looks. :S

CanaryFish · 30/11/2018 10:00

I have a big hooded towel I wear while getting my kids dry. I don’t care who thinks I’m a twat. If I can survive wearing a swimming hat and ugly bathing suit then I’m not gonna compromise on comfort and handiness in case someone looks at me and thinks “oh she’s looks stupid in her towel “

It's a great idea - people might follow suit!

ValleyOfLilies · 30/11/2018 10:04

I used something similar to HotInWinter's link. Didn't really care what anyone else thought, I was warm.

frami · 30/11/2018 10:12

I used to do this all the time when taking children swimming. Lots of Mums did it, and still do according to youngest DD - a qualified swim teacher.

Taytotots · 30/11/2018 10:14

Like hotinwinter and canaryfish I have an adult sized hooded wearable towel thing (available in decathlon - just saying!). Don't care what it looks like! Saves me freezing while wrestling slightly damp children into clothes (not my favourite activity!). Dryrobe are great too ittakes2 but might be a bit warm for poolside (more for open water).
