To banish cat from the house?

At night.

Have rehomed the bloody thing in the garage.

We haven't had a litter tray indoors for over a year. Had an outside one for a while which she didn't use so I removed it. For the last few weeks, when it's been wet outside, she has been shitting in her bed. Two mornings in a row now I've come down to it.

I don't want an indoor tray again so have locked her in the garage with tray and food where she will go every night over the winter from now on.

DC think IABU but they're not cleaning up the shit and having to do two boil washes, one for bed, one to clean machine!

Maybe give CPL a call and seek their advice?

I have 2 CPL cats, they come and inspect you and your home, not your garage! To see if you and your home are suitable for a cat.

Tell them the story, see what their advice is.

slappinthebass · 01/12/2018 14:05

We kick our cat out most nights, unless it's snow/heavy rain. We don't even have a garage. I think some people are too precious about cats. We've never had a litter tray and I'd never have one.

Lizzie48 · 01/12/2018 14:08

I also wonder why the OP keeps ignoring some very helpful suggestions from other cat owners on here? I've posted on here and had some really good advice (along with a few looking for an argument, that goes with the territory on here) and it's made a real difference.

Claw001 · 01/12/2018 14:11

Slappin if you had a garage would you lock your cat in there at night?

stressedoutpa · 01/12/2018 14:12

You sound very odd and unreasonable. Poor cat.

We have a cat flap and our cat comes and goes as he pleases throughout the day/night. He's not allowed upstairs at night so is either out or sleeping in the lounge.

We never have problems with 'stinking cat shit' here. Perhaps you need to read up on keeping a cat.

BumDisease · 01/12/2018 14:13

Why have you even posted this OP? You couldn't give a shit either about the cat or what anyone thinks, so why bother other than to be a trolling arsehole?

My God! People on here are being totally hysterical. The cat will be fine in the garage with a comfortable bed, so long as it doesn't get too cold.

empmalswa · 01/12/2018 14:43

Another one missing the point.

It's not a case of whether a cat will be fine in a garage. It is very much a question of whether this particular cat IS fine now. Because the recent change in behaviour indicates that all is not well.

BumsexAtTheBingo · 01/12/2018 14:51

If you can’t stand litter then why would you get a cat? My cat usually goes outside but I don’t begrudge it an indoor toilet if the weather is bad. Yes it smells and I have to scoop it and open windows/spray some air freshener. Same as when a human uses the toilet sometimes. You don’t banish a family pet to the garage!
It’s a cat it doesn’t understand that it should be going outside in all weather to avoid making a smell. It is behaving like a cat and if that’s not what you want then I ask again why did you get one?

pigsDOfly · 01/12/2018 15:01

My two cats were great lovers of the great outdoor, with a cat flap, throughout their lives.

When they got old, however, the great outdoor lost it's appeal and they spent most of their time in the house. I had two or three litter trays in the house and although it's not ideal, it's what you do - the same as when they're ill - because they're part of your family and you care for them.

I don't understand how anyone with a cat can expect it to get through its entire live without ever needing a litter tray in the house.

Dongdingdong · 01/12/2018 15:24

OP you sound very cruel and callous. Why on earth did you get a cat in the first place?

Lizzie48 · 01/12/2018 15:45

My DM was similar to the OP when we had cats growing up. She used to hate litter trays because of the smell but then complained when our cats weed and pooed in the house, which created far more work.

It was the case that the cats did their business in the house far more when they were older and not so well (one of them was arthritic).

Now our cats go outside mostly, but there are 2 litter trays indoors if needed.

Jas0510 · 01/12/2018 16:09

Not only are YBU but you are being cruel. It is cold and raining outside so provide a litter tray or rehome her to someone that will.

Deadringer · 01/12/2018 16:14

Our cat always slept in the garage, she had a cosy bed and a litter tray in there, can't see the big deal.

Claw001 · 01/12/2018 16:28

Dead was your cat locked in the garage too?

MrsEddieVedder · 01/12/2018 16:40

Classic MN. This is utterly cruel yet letting a 10 year old stressed CHILD have one day off school to recuperate is utterly unreasonable and irresponsible. World's gone bloody mad.

FeckingEll · 01/12/2018 17:12

What difference does it make if the cat is locked up in the garage overnight Claw? We haven't got a cat flap on the garage door yet. Probably not going to as cat will not keep a collar on so can't do a magnetic flap to keep foxes out (we adjoin the woods and there are plenty of them). For the same reason I would not have a cat flap in house, together with the risk of her bringing in dead animals as she often brings 'presents' to the back door.

So she's locked in the garage overnight as she would be if she was in the lounge. What of it? All spring, summer and autumn this year she has mainly stayed outside, apart from the odd few nights that she decided to stay in. She has a hidey hole under the decking if it was raining and we have several other sheltered areas in the garden. I don't want her outside all night throughout the winter though which is why I've been calling her in.

She is free to come in and out of the hose during the day.

And this is cruelConfused.

I only posted as the night that I first put her in the garage, I'd never done it before and it seemed odd. Now it is the perfect solution to not having a shitty smelling house and washing cat crap off her bed.

You're all nuts, really.

Bored now.

ilovesooty · 01/12/2018 17:29

Bored with winding people up you mean.

Deadringer · 01/12/2018 17:34

claw yes he was locked in the garage every night, it was his bedroom i suppose you could say. During the day he was in the kitchen or he was outdoors. I don't see a problem with that. Tbf he wasn't a very indoorsy cat, his mother was feral. If I got another cat I would do the same. What's wrong with the garage?

gamerchick · 01/12/2018 17:47

So she might be ill and you don't care enough to take her to a vet?

Ok then.

ItsalmostSummer · 01/12/2018 17:53

Some cats live in barns. I keep mine indoors in fact they are now indoor cats now not by choice but we don’t want predators to get them (outside the UK now). I have kept cats both inside and outside the house for years. Honestly if her cat is allowed inside during the day and has a warm shelter and poop box in the garage overnight then I think it’s fine. I think the OPs initial (and following) attitude hasn’t helped. I guess you figured quickly OP that posting here wasn’t necessary. You are happy with your set up and no one else can see how it works BUT how you have talked about your cat has upset a lot of people. And I get that.
