To ask people with personalised number plates.......why?

Genuinely interested. I see more and more personalised number plates (Sha70n) on my way home which inspired this thread. Why do you do it? Do you want people to know your name? Do you wear your name on the back of your jacket or on the front of your t-shirt?

I am really intrigued as to why people would flaunt their name, initials, nickname, whatever.....on their car.

MN enlighten me please!!

Oh and to answer the pp's question about going to the effort of finding someone to make illegal plates, I don't know about most people be we have a market nearby every Saturday and there's 2 stands that will make any plate you want with no paperwork or anything - go figure!

Bedsheets4knickers · 30/11/2018 21:55

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2018 21:57

I don't get AR51 COW?

UrsulaPandress · 30/11/2018 21:59

Arsey cow

Sparklingbrook · 30/11/2018 22:01

That's a bit of a stretch to think it says that.

less chance of been stolen, stand out more to the police

I know someone who had a really "good" numberplate of the football team we support. Someone once stopped him in a carpark and offered him a fortune to swap for their own "less good" plate of the same team. I'd have bitten their hand off, but then i would never have a personalised plate in the first place. My friend turned them down.

There used to be an H20 UXB on a 4x4 in our street in Southsea. I'm guessing he was a clearance diver.

RR 1 got sold for £460,000 or so recently....

Oldraver · 02/12/2018 08:42

With the current format if you have a five letter name with no o or I in the last three it's easy to have a private plate

DVLA have yet to release any ST-- EVE ones

JudgeRindersMinder · 02/12/2018 08:46

It’s sentimental for me-I have the plate from my Grandad’s 1970s car. I couldn’t keep the car but wanted to keep the link with him, so I transferred the plate

Bluesheep8 · 02/12/2018 08:51

I know someone who got one because the original number plate said NOB on it Grin

UrsulaPandress · 02/12/2018 17:31

My name is available as a genuine plate. Bit too expensive though.
