Disgusting toilet

So my son has recently moved away for work and is flat sharing with two other lads.I went round for the first time at the weekend and was nearly sick when I needed to use the loo and saw the state of it!Would I be unreasonable to bring round stuff to clean it next time I visit? And what would I need? It looks like it's never ever been cleaned and there is probably decades of built up limescale and grime down the pan Envy not envy

no, let them deal with it. part of growing up.

wowfudge · 29/11/2018 15:34

Why would you clean their toilet? By all means say something to you son and give him some tips for getting rid of the limescale, but they are all adults and it's not your house.

BarbaraofSevillle · 29/11/2018 15:38

No, don't clean their toilet. It will only get like that again because it's obvious none of them ever clean it so why on earth would you?

Just stop at the nearest supermarket/McDonalds etc to their house on the way there and go again after you've left.

Buster72 · 29/11/2018 15:43

What would you need you ask?
IF you are contemplating cleaning someone's toilet you already know what you need....

eddiemairswife · 29/11/2018 15:46

Why didn't you say something to your son while you were there? He must have grown up with a clean toilet at home.

Worieddd · 29/11/2018 15:47

Bleurgh

No don’t clean it but get your son to do it instead

Whowhatnow99 · 29/11/2018 15:47

Buy them some Harpic Power (black bottle) and leave them to it Smile

wowfudge · 29/11/2018 15:47

Did no one teach him to clean the loo at home?

dontalltalkatonce · 29/11/2018 15:49

Why would you go and clean these lazy sods' toilet? Don't enable adults like this, it's why so many wind up useless manchildren.

Time40 · 29/11/2018 15:50

Tell him you won't be visiting again unless they clean it.

BarbaraofSevillle · 29/11/2018 15:52

Well you could buy him a big basket of cleaning supplies for Christmas?

Or does he still believe in the cleaning fairy?

Charm23 · 29/11/2018 15:53

I'd want to clean it because but I wouldn't - I'd tell him exactly what I thought of it, recommend the correct products and suggest he does it himself. He's gotta learn at some point!

KatharinaRosalie · 29/11/2018 15:54

To bring stuff -YANBU. Even better to tell them to get their own, of course. You would be very very U if you actually cleaned it.

Seniorschoolmum · 29/11/2018 15:55

Explain to your son HOW to clean the loo. If it is that bad, he won’t know to fill it with acid & leave it to dissolve the lime scale.
Don’t do it for him, but tell him what is needed.

keepingbees · 29/11/2018 15:58

If he's just moved in I take it it was already in a state when they got the place. So it's not just a case of them being unclean. I'm assuming he's a young man? In which case do they know how to clean it? If it were my son I wouldn't do it for him but I'd buy him a bottle of Harpic and at least give him a few pointers

Kanin · 29/11/2018 15:58

get him a box of citric acid from Wilko and leave him to it. best thing for getting rid of limescale.

ChodeofChodeHall · 29/11/2018 16:00

I am sure they all have eyes, and noses, and know how to clean a toilet.

lynnepot · 29/11/2018 16:03

I second the buy them some bleach and leave it next to the loo. Its up to them to use and clean. Otherwise when you go round just take some anti bac handgel Blush

Charolais · 29/11/2018 16:05

Clean their toilet if you're going to use it again and show them how to keep it clean. This is how people learn.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee · 29/11/2018 16:09

Do posters really think an adult needs to be ‘taught’ how to clean a toilet by his mammy. I’m sure all the lads in the flat share are perfectly capable of doing it it’s just they don’t want to.

MissRhubarb · 29/11/2018 16:09

I know what people mean about "he needs to learn!" and of course they are right, but I'd still bring a bottle of bleach round and leave it by the toilet and tell him to at least use that. It'll make it less of a bio-hazard at least.

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2018 16:10

Not your toilet not your problem.

They will all know how to clean a toilet they just can't be bothered or are waiting for one of the others to do it.

wowfudge · 29/11/2018 16:11

Cue someone complaining about the use of bleach...

Kids should be shown how to do basic cleaning when they are growing up. Part of preparing them for independence.

SendintheArdwolves · 29/11/2018 16:12

Christ, don't clean it for them.

This reminds me of one of my old flatmate's mums who couldn't seem to resist cleaning when she popped round. It was intrusive and faintly tragic - her precious angel needed mummy wummy to look after him. What was even worse is that she used to give me and my other (female) flatmates cleaning tips - looking back, I wish we had replied "don't tell me how to clean the dishwasher, tell your revolting slob of a son".
