Would you take a bottle of champagne from a drinks gathering?

Free drinks hosted by an organisation I am member of. This is a very very very wealthy organisation, worth in excess of £500 million.

There were 50 people and 100 bottles of champagne.

As I was leaving I saw a crate of champagne and so nabbed a bottle. AIBU?

Erm no, I wouldn’t. Not without asking anyway.

peachypetite · 28/11/2018 19:36

I wouldn't

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 28/11/2018 19:36

I’d have taken two. And not given it the slightest thought.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 28/11/2018 19:37

I would have if I thought I could get away with it.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/11/2018 19:37

Of course not. It wasn’t yours to take. Stealing I think it’s called.

Honeyroar · 28/11/2018 19:37

I wouldn't, but I'm sure a lot of people would.

BrightStarrySky · 28/11/2018 19:37

By “nabbed” do you meal “stole”?

Fucksgiven · 28/11/2018 19:37

No, that's wrong. Drink what you like at the event but no carry outs.

CatherineCawood · 28/11/2018 19:37

This is the sort of stupid thing I used to do and one of the reasons why I stopped drinking!

BrightStarrySky · 28/11/2018 19:37

*mean, not meal!

SunnySomer · 28/11/2018 19:38

Even if the organisation is wealthy, you were stealing. If you’d been offered (but someone in authority) that would have been different

haverhill · 28/11/2018 19:39

I would be tempted but probably wouldn’t.

LostInShoebiz · 28/11/2018 19:39

No, that’s stealing. Would you just wander behind a bar and take a drink?

SumitosIsMyWall · 28/11/2018 19:39

No

bringbackthestripes · 28/11/2018 19:40

YABU.
You may have been invited to have a drink whilst you were attending but I doubt they would expect people to make off with unopened bottles.
I would consider it theft.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 28/11/2018 19:40

Is this a serious question?

No I wouldn’t steal a bottle of champagne!

Ragwort · 28/11/2018 19:40

Sort of thing I might have done as a student, but surely if you are part of this organisation you like the other people and respect the ethos of the organisation - so stealing a bottle of champagne is a really petty thing to do.

chemenger · 28/11/2018 19:40

Theft, plain and simple. Why would you think its OK? They probably had the drinks on sale or return, did you think they would be going to waste?

Caprisunorange · 28/11/2018 19:40

No. Unless really pissed

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/11/2018 19:45

In those circumstances yeah. I'd check for Cctv cameras first.

From a person's house, party in a hotel/pub, no way.

mando12345 · 28/11/2018 19:48

No I wouldn't.

FitzChivalryFarseer · 28/11/2018 19:48

My twat of a BIL decided to take a bottle of champagne from my wedding by sneaking out the back into the staff area. What he didn’t know was that my father was paying corkage. He knew exactly how many bottles had been provided, and as the wedding was in a marquee in their garden, it couldn’t have gone missing very easily. All the empties were being put back in the boxes for accounting purposes. When there was a bottle missing, the staff ended up being questioned as it looked like one of them had taken it. It was horribly embarrassing to realise later that it was a guest. If he had just asked for another glass/bottle, he could’ve had it, there was no need for him to take one on the sly.

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/11/2018 19:48

Ah wait, no sorry, didn't see 'organisation I'm a member of'. So, no. I wouldn't in those circumstances.

I thought it was a corporate bash at a £500 million company you work for.

FluffyMcCloud · 28/11/2018 19:49

Ha! Yeh i totally would!

Ohheyyy · 28/11/2018 19:49

Definitely not! It wasn't in a goody bag waiting to be taken home, it was for the event.
