Sorry probably v boring
Last year, my car insurance was a telematics policy because I was a new driver. I predicted 12000 miles per year and did not exceed that within the year. When I called to cancel I ended up renewing because they matched a quote. When I asked if they could do another telematics policy, they said it was not possible because my previous year's telematics indicated that I'm a low risk driver. I asked what would happen to the black box (installed in car not accessible) and asked if they wanted it back to which they responded that they don't remove black boxes but it will be disabled and won't record any more information - this was in August.
I've just had an email saying that I'm predicted to exceed my mileage and they're slapping a £90 charge on plus admin fees. I logged onto my dashboard and the black box is still recording data for the current year despite being explicitly told that they WOULD NOT provide a telematics policy for me. Due to work placement rotations changing every few months, I'm driving a lot more now than I will be in the summer so I won't exceed 12000 miles overall. The charge will probably be refunded (minus admin fees ffs) if this is the case but I can't afford to wait until the end of the year - insurance is already so expensive and I can't afford the extra. Do I have a leg to stand on re being lied to on the phone? I have no evidence of this but feel like I've been cheated out of money
What can I do? Will I just have to find the money and suck it up? TIA
