To ask how to help DD with chicken pox in her vulva

PrincessWatermelon · 27/11/2018 16:54

DD4 is covered in CP spots including in her vulva and the entrance to her back passage. She's crying in pain. Dosed up on calpol and piriton. We did a warm bath with bicarbonate of soda earlier (not sure if it gave any relief). She's currently sitting on an ice pack in the vague hope that'll cool it down.

Anything else you can suggest? It's horrible seeing her in such discomfort. Thanks

Sorry posted too soon. The bath in bicarb water really helped ds, but we also tried a bit of brown malt vinegar in the bath.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 27/11/2018 16:59

Put some oats into the foot of old pair of tights. Run bath warm water over it and it will make a really soothing bath.

HardAsSnails · 27/11/2018 17:01

Calendula is very good for chicken pox, and it's used in some of Weleda's baby products, including a nappy cream. A few drops of lavender oil in the bath with bicarb might help too.

Fink · 27/11/2018 17:02

All the above, especially oats in the bath. But mainly try to keep her busy & distracted so she doesn't have time to think about it too much, or if she's tired sit with her as she goes to sleep (to try to prevent scratching).

Frogsareawesome · 27/11/2018 17:05

Agree with oat baths and also ice lollies for spots in mouth. First couple of days are usually worse so hopefully it won't last too long.

BertrandRussell · 27/11/2018 17:13

Calendula cream is amazing for chicken pox. Make sure it’s the proper herbal one, not homeopathic, which is useless.

PrincessWatermelon · 27/11/2018 17:24

Thank you. She's sat in the washing up bowl with bicarbonate of soda in it. Still crying "someone help me!" Breaks my heart. Can't get out to a pharmacy for an hour (DH on way home). Distracting her with tv, but not working v well.

Will look for Eurax and the C cream mentioned too.

Not long had this with DD.

Soak a cotton wool pad on calamine and pop it in her pants. Helped DD.

Also a damp flannel helped.

beela · 27/11/2018 17:30

My dd had this, it was horrible. Fortunately the worst of it was over in 24 hours. Bicarb baths helped a bit (including one at 2am).

Hope she feels better soon.

OldBrownShoe · 27/11/2018 17:31

Do you have any pantyliners? Could put calomine or sudocrem on one and pop it in her knickers

SoyDora · 27/11/2018 17:31

DD had this, it was awful. An oat bath was the only thing that helped.

Jackreacherswife · 27/11/2018 17:34

Throw a load of oats in the washing up bowl. Put in a sock first if you don't want them stuck to her. Or empty a carton of oat milk in there.

Littlemissdaredevil · 27/11/2018 17:36

I had this as child and it was very painful. My parents took me to my GP and he prescribed some cream for me.

emwithme · 27/11/2018 17:36

When i had chicken pox as a child (I had it everywhere too) my mum soaked a sanitary towel in calamine lotion which soothed somewhat.

LokiBear · 27/11/2018 17:37

Aveeno cream. Regularly applied. The best soothing cream you can get. Much better all of the others ime.

LokiBear · 27/11/2018 17:38

Second tbe oat bath before applyong aveeno

Cherries101 · 27/11/2018 17:38

Sanitary towel (soft ‘cheap’ fluffy ones not Always) soaked with either calamine or sudocreme.

giftsonthebrain · 27/11/2018 17:39

TUCKS medicated pads.
Get some of these from the drug store, keep them in the fridge.

cookingteaforsix · 27/11/2018 17:41

A lot of bi carb in warm water.
You need so much more than you think. A few full cups in a bath, so the usual pot from a supermarket would do one bath.

You can get it in larger containers in Robert Dyas and Poundland in the cleaning section. It's the same stuff as the cooking brands, just more of it and cheaper.

Lisbon · 27/11/2018 17:43

Oats in the bath SAVED US!

Both my DC lived in the bath for three days and we went through copious amounts of oats inside tights and muslin cloths.

Frizzcat · 27/11/2018 17:44

I used bio yoghurt, it worked well and I think was cooling.
