To ask if you have a floordrobe?

Mine's more of a chair/ ottomandrobe to be fair, but I can't seem to NOT have a great pile of clothes somewhere in my room. I don't want to put worn clothes back in the wardrobe, but they're not dirty or smelly so don't need a wash... also I sometimes change my mind on what to wear and just chuck the other stuff onto the chair while I'm trying other things on. I'm always rushing around/out so don't have the time to put it away.

Please tell me I'm not alone... I've always been a bit like this even before I had kids.

Yes and so do my children for exactly the reasons you stated.

I need a walk in closet. Imagine the luxury.

NationalShiteDay · 27/11/2018 09:40

I think they're pretty normal aren't they? Mine is usually only one outfit though, not loads

SoupDragon · 27/11/2018 09:42

I need a walk in closet.

As opposed to a walk on closet.

Cuzcothellama · 27/11/2018 09:42

Noooooooooo I hate the floordrobe!!

Clothes either go back in the cupboard or in the wash. If you don't think they're dirty / smelly enough for the wash, they therefore can go back in the wardrobe. If they're too dirty / smelly for the wardrobe, then they need to go in the wash! There is no halfway house!!!!

/and breathe.

pantyclaws · 27/11/2018 09:50

As opposed to a walk on closet.

haha!

My interpretation of 'floordrobe' was to fold 'can be worn again' clothes and put them on the wardrobe shelf. So the 'floor' of the wardrobe.

Except now husband keeps his jeans folded there, so we've got the chair again.

Mulberry72 · 27/11/2018 09:51

Oh God no! If clothes are dirty they go in the wash. If they’re clean they’re put away.

pantyclaws · 27/11/2018 09:52

Cuzco my wardrobe is pretty full, and for some reason I want my clothes to air once I've worn them, not be stuffed back in there though. Keep breathing!

I probably need a(nother) clearout.

Some of my floordrobe has been there for weeks Blush

To my eternal shame I do, it’s usually jeans to be worn again the next day etc but I’m v guilty of not putting things away, probably because my wardrobes and drawers are already full of shit I no longer wear but for some reason can’t bear to through out (despite several recent attempts to do just that)

Mari50 · 27/11/2018 09:54

*throw

Kismetjayn · 27/11/2018 09:56

Yes. I shame myself out of it once a month or so but then... It's back.

formerbabe · 27/11/2018 10:00

If I wear something once and know I will wear it again...it gets put back away. If it's clean enough to be worn again, then it's clean enough to go back in the drawer.

pantyclaws · 27/11/2018 10:01

THere must be a longer term solution to the floordrobe...

I just don't know what it is

Does anyone have an open clothes rail rather than a closed wardrobe? I wonder if that would work so clothes could then air but then i couldn't shut the door on all the crap in my wardrobe

OP posts:
Pebblesandfriends · 27/11/2018 10:01

Get a clothes tree or hangers on the back of the door, if you can't bring yourself to put them back in the wardrobe..... think of all the dust mites!

SheepyFun · 27/11/2018 10:01

Yay, I've met my people! Though I have a large plastic box (which regularly overflows) rather than just the floor....

pantyclaws · 27/11/2018 10:03

Formerbabe what's your secret??

How come I'm always manically rushing around, I literally hardly stop from the minute I am woken up at 5.30 by my screeching demanding kids until I go to bed at 10.30... a few times a week I might watch 30-60 mins of TV if I'm exhausted but the rest of the time I'm go go go to the point where the floordrobe is last on my priority list.

My floor is gross too, loads of child related make up and pen accidents, maybe it's better covered in clothes

Dust mites? Shock

How do they work??

Thank God it's not just me! This post has made me feel so much better and I laughed to myself. Thanks for cheering me up this morning!

Raisinbrain · 27/11/2018 10:06

I don't have any clothes lying about. It would drive my husband crazy (and he'd drive me crazy).
I have a free standing mirror which has rails on the back (IKEA knapper) so I hang things up there if they need airing.

Dancer12345 · 27/11/2018 10:08

Another guilty person here. I have no room for a chair either, so floor it is. Have considered an ottoman or similar - just need one that’s sturdy but not too big.

Totally agree with you - worn clothes need to air and not go back in the wardrobes. I then have a tidy around once a week and vow to keep it tidier, without much success.

formerbabe · 27/11/2018 10:09

pantyclaws No secret...although I don't work and kids are at school which massively helps!

Plus, I pretty much shove the clothes away in drawers...I'd be mortified if anyone saw the state of them Grin

goingonabearhunt1 · 27/11/2018 10:10

I have only recently learned that putting worn (but not dirty) clothes back in the wardrobe is 'bad' but I've just carried on because I hate stuff lying around everywhere. I have an open rail for my work/everyday clothes so though which is much easier to garb things off of in the morning.

formerbabe · 27/11/2018 10:11

My floor is gross too, loads of child related make up and pen accidents, maybe it's better covered in clothes

Oh my carpet had a lot of make up accidents on it too. I discovered plain old bar soap is amazing for getting rid of eyeliner stains on my carpet.

goingonabearhunt1 · 27/11/2018 10:11

In Ikea they have this standing mirror thing that has a little hanging place (like enough space for the next days outfit) and I really want one; that would solve the problem. If you're trying on a million outfits and flinging them everywhere though you might just need to declutter and return things to their places.

fadehead · 27/11/2018 10:11

I have a doordrobe! I sling stuff over the top of my bedroom door. No matter how hard I try, there are usually clothes on there, or the bed, or the floor, from the rushing. I always seem to be tight on time, so clothes are never all perfectly away as I will sling things on the bed if I do a last minute change of clothing, until I get time to hang them back up again.
