To ask if you have a floordrobe?

Mine's more of a chair/ ottomandrobe to be fair, but I can't seem to NOT have a great pile of clothes somewhere in my room. I don't want to put worn clothes back in the wardrobe, but they're not dirty or smelly so don't need a wash... also I sometimes change my mind on what to wear and just chuck the other stuff onto the chair while I'm trying other things on. I'm always rushing around/out so don't have the time to put it away.

Please tell me I'm not alone... I've always been a bit like this even before I had kids.

I have a small floordrobe! Folded under bedside cabinet. It’s used for pj days clothes, you know, have to get dressed for a few minutes to go to the corner shop days, then back off again!

Maybe these people who have to wash everything once it has been worn have bad BO or sweat a lot ..m

I used to have a pretty bad one from when I worked. In the morning I’d try to put an outfit out the night before but then in the light I’d see creases or something that prevented me from wearing the planned outfit or I’d have meeting changes so different requirements or worse I’d have eaten a gigantic dinner and required stretchier clothes the next morning than initially planned Grin

Now I am sahm I find I have retrained myself to put stuff back in the wardrobe immediately and I’m quite proud of seeing my carpet these days...
saying that I’m 100% certain if I work again, floordrobe will return with a vengeance

dinosaurglitterrepublic · 27/11/2018 13:22

I do. The floordrobe was once described to me as being for clothes that are ‘in play’.

CrabbityRabbit · 27/11/2018 13:41

Yes I have a rocking chair in the bedroom that keeps all my clothes to wear again. Minor sewing repair jobs and needs ironing get hung on the ironing board which leans against the wardrobe when not in use.

DP just chucks things on the floor Angry but now at least keeps it to his side of the bed where I can't see it.

Inspired by this thread I just cleared my chairdrobe.
I have removed a whole bag full of stuff for the charity shop (unworn - had previously been 'sorted' but ended up on the chair with stuff thrown over) 5 items into the washing bin, 6 items back into drawers or wardrobe.
Underneath it all were 4 clothes hangers and a shelf that I meant to hang two weeks ago.

I'm now sitting in my chair feeling very proud but ignoring the two full washing baskets of clean clothes that need to be folded next to me.

My husband put his foot down about this when we moved into our new apartment, so now I have a "purgatory drawer" and a designated section at the end of the wardrobe - keeps everything out of sight but also means they don't get mixed up with clean stuff!

Elpatso80 · 27/11/2018 13:50

I used to have a chair piled with clothes, until I got some new fitted wardrobes which included one tall narrow one, it had two layers of hanging space and became my 'worn once wardrobe'. One rail for me and one for my husband and it was brilliant - clothes are not in a messy heap and do not have to go back in with other the clean clothes!! When we moved bedrooms and had new wardrobes fitted, I made sure we had another similar space. 😊

Lunalula · 27/11/2018 13:55

Personally, never. Our family of 4 have 2 wardrobes for coats, dresses and shirts.
Everything else in rolled up into our 3 chest of draws. And literally a plastic box for hats, scarves and gloves. I couldnt have clothes all over the place it would annoy me. As soon as I wake up I literally shift yesterdays clothes on the floor to the wash basket or put back on what's clean ect.
I hate mess, I don't even like drying clothes on the clothes horse because I think even that looks untidy Grin

TheWiseWomansFear · 27/11/2018 13:59

No, maybe for a day or two I have a folded laundry PIl before I put them away.
Used to as a students but can't stand it now

starkid · 27/11/2018 14:15

Oh god you are not alone haha, it's one of my worst habits!
I've got a chairobe, it's a problem, and yes, I've also had things on there for a couple of weeks! It's partly laziness for some e.g. jeans which can be work loads. However like you said, with tops, sometimes they just aren't dirty after one wear, but you want to know you've worn it once already and should be washed after the next wear, rather than sticking it back in the wardrobe again. And for times I've changed my outfit 4 times rapidly before rushing out and can't be arsed to put them back in (did I mention laziness is my worst trait??)

I want a shelf inside my wardrobe to shove these clothes. I'm hoping for new wardrobes next year I can customise, and this shelf is a priority!

sossages · 27/11/2018 14:24

Yes! It is possible for something to be clean enough to wear again, but not so clean I'm happy for it to go back in a drawer and risk diluting the lovely fresh laundry smell.
