To ask if you have a floordrobe?

Mine's more of a chair/ ottomandrobe to be fair, but I can't seem to NOT have a great pile of clothes somewhere in my room. I don't want to put worn clothes back in the wardrobe, but they're not dirty or smelly so don't need a wash... also I sometimes change my mind on what to wear and just chuck the other stuff onto the chair while I'm trying other things on. I'm always rushing around/out so don't have the time to put it away.

Please tell me I'm not alone... I've always been a bit like this even before I had kids.

I do, I'm awful! With everything else I'm pretty clean and tidy but with clothes they just go on the floor. New outfit, get it home, try on, take off, drop on floor, leave for approx 2 weeks.
Underwear etc goes in the wash as soon as it comes off and t-shirts depending on time worn but jeans/skirts usually get worn 2 or 3 times unless dirty so just sit on the floor between wears/washes.

Need to sort it out, I'm moving into a new house this week and do NOT want to continue the pattern

I'm planning on getting one of these

So the floordrobe becomes a walldrobe

pantyclaws · 27/11/2018 10:25

I have only recently learned that putting worn (but not dirty) clothes back in the wardrobe is 'bad'

@goingonabearhunt1
It is actually bad?? Like, scientifically proven bad? OOh! I KNEW my floordrobe was based in science ;)

oooh that's good enb76 and so does the knapper

If you've worn them they need a wash. End of story. ...

This is what an exercise bike in the bedroom is for. Perfect for draping ‘not dirty/not freshly laundered’ clothes on Smile

sosmooth · 27/11/2018 10:49

Binkybunty This is exactly what my DH does and it drives me insane! you would be perfect for each other if you want him? He's been annoying me all morning.

Nearthebig40 · 27/11/2018 10:53

Oh I have an organised way to hang clothes that I’ll be using again....
Next day clothes (jeans etc) hang over the heated towel rail. Dirty clothes to be worn again (jodhpurs / mucking out gear / clothes they can be worn until they walk into the wash) on a hook. Smarter clothes (going out top that has only been worn for a couple of hours and can be reused etc) chucked on a stool. It looks like chaos but it’s actually quite organised Grin

Birdsgottafly · 27/11/2018 10:58

I hang my ok-to-be-worn-again clothes on hangers over the doors of my wardrobe/back of my door. If I've changed I to Pj's, which I do once home and I'm going the local shops later, I put my clothes on the coat rack.

Having kittens and house rabbits means that you get tidy.

My DD was very messy until she got a puppy.

pantyclaws · 27/11/2018 11:02

If you've worn them they need a wash. End of story.

You wash everything you've worn after wearing it once??

Weirdo

Yes I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I have a floordrobe.
Nothing to do with wardrobe space or storage, it's just what I do 🙈
When the DC were growing up I hung up my clothes (to set a good example) and none of them have a floordrobe. But asa they all left home I reverted to the slob that I am.

I mostly hang worn clothes from the handles of the wardrobe and have a chair for the rest. I am thinking of getting over door airer though to tidy things up a bit.

JoyofSticks · 27/11/2018 11:52

Always had a floordrobe, easiest way to access my clothes, the stuff in the actual wardrobe just hangs there until it goes to the charity shop.

froufroufoxes · 27/11/2018 12:03

I'm shocked there are people who don't have a floordrobe.

pantyclaws · 27/11/2018 12:10

That airer looks handy but is a bit ugly Lucy - I'd feel obliged to cover it in clothes to make it look more attractive

OP posts:
bellsbuss · 27/11/2018 12:15

I don't but OH thinks the sofa in our bedroom is for his clothes. I can't stand it so either hang them up or put them in the wash, he then moans he can't find them. Drives me mad

RockyisMYRhino · 27/11/2018 12:18

I have to have a bit of a floordrobe situation going on - my actual wardrobe is in DSs room and I have to shower and dress when he is napping so can only wear what's in my room. Usually a pair of jeans or two, three or four tops/T-shirts and a jumper or two.

wafflyversatile · 27/11/2018 12:21

I also have a bedrobe. These are clothes out of the tumble dryer dumped on the bed to be put away 'later' or 'in a minute'.

my floordrobe is usually when I clear the bedrobe to make it but don't move on to putting clothes away.

wafflyversatile · 27/11/2018 12:23

The back of the chair is taken up with leggings, jeggings and jeans, some of which haven't gone at the inner seams.

Minor sewing repairs never seems to get ticked on my to do list.

seventhgonickname · 27/11/2018 12:24

I have a chair,these don't count.
I have a jumper and carry on there atm for easy access and a top that I only wire for a few hours.Tonight anything that I'm wearing today and will wear tomorrow will join them.
I have a secondary pile in a laundry basket of things that need ironing or are clean but not yet made it into drawers(some is summer stuff awaiting its annual ironing before being stored over winter.

AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo · 27/11/2018 12:32

My floordrobe has expanded since having DD. I can put something on clean and within an hour my toddler will have mashed banana into it or in 2 hours trampled muddy wellies on the hems of my jeans. I understand the rationale of clean in wardrobe, dirty in laundry, but....what about jeans that are a teeny bit dirty on the hem, you wouldn’t wear them to work, to meet friends etc, but perfectly fine for DD’s next muddy trip to the park?

HexagonalBattenburg · 27/11/2018 12:38

Not any more! I used to but since we got the bedroom re-done and loads and loads of fitted wardrobe space stuff I'm wearing again (usually it's something like a cardigan I'll get a couple of days out of) just gets folded and left on a shelf in the wardrobe until the following morning.

I used to have the floordrobe from hell with the lack of decent clothes storage in there.

OnIlkelyMoorBahtat · 27/11/2018 12:44

I replaced my floordrobe (which served exactly the same purpose as yours pantyclaws) with a doordrobe: it's a cheap set of over-the-door-hooks I got from Argos. It's completely overladen with erm, transitional clothing, but it makes me feel very virtuous every time look at my empty bedroom floor!
