I'm so fed up of them, and I don't even claim them anymore.
Short story claimed them whilst single parent then moved in with DP now DH so stopped claim in October 2017.
Today received a letter stating I owed near on 1k in an overpayment.
Queried it, they said by the end of April 2018 I had higher earnings than declared. I said well yes I moved to a better paying job after stopping the claim to compensate for loss in income, and I am unable to call you to update income after I have stopped claiming.
To be fair the guy on the phone was nice enough, no point shouting at him, not his fault just his job, and he was really helpful setting up a payment plan to clear it which was agreeable to my bank balance.
But I just feel like I've been penalised for getting a better job. Part of me thinks if I was told this was to be the case when stopping the claim I honestly would have just struggled on for 6 months on the same income to avoid this.
I probably am being unreasonable because I know it's calculated over a 12month period but still, just tell me when I'm ending the claim that any changes in income after the claim has ended will result in an overpayment! Oh well.
