Lovely Mners, I am happy to be told I am being unreasonable, I've posted in AIBU before where I thought I was completely right and told i was wrong. So here is my dilemma.

On Friday (Black Friday) I decided to do some of my xmas shopping. I received a promotional email from UB (registered customer with them) advertising their black Friday deals.I had my eye on a lovely eye shadow palette on sale on the Urban decay website I noticed that had been reduced from £39.99 to £31.60 but not only that, to my delight there was a "Cyber" discount of 25% extra if you bought more than 2 products.

Excited, i quickly ordered 2 palettes online, but then noticed when i applied the 25% discount code instead of the total coming to what i thought, it only showed a reduction by about £2 (can't remember exact amount) but between a £1 and £2 discount. convinced something was wrong i called Urban decay and explained the situation.

The lady i spoke to said there is a problem with their configuration on the promotional code and that i should go ahead and checkout with my purchase and it will show the correct 25% discount when i pay. she also sent me an email to show i had called up as and discussed this matter as evidence.

Happy with this, i proceeded with my order. I usually pay with Paypal, but by the time i got my paypal page, it was still showing only the £1ish discount. So i called back again. This time i got a different lady. I was told the first information i got was incorrect. That infact a 20% discount has already been applied to their products which is why it has gone from £39.99 to £31.60 and that if i buy more that 2 products the promotion is that i will get an extra 5% off and not 25% Confused. So the promotion is buy 2 get 5% off.

I pointed out that this is not at all what their website is showing and that it is very misleading to customers. I also told the woman that the previous lady had assured my they would honour 25%. she asked for the call number that relates to the email, went away came back and didn't say anything further about it. Just kept saying there is not such discount. I challenged her again about the wrong information on their website and her reply was, "We are working on it". with that the call ended. I was very disappointed and ended up purchasing something much cheaper from their site.

But what has annoyed me more since Friday is that this promotion is still up on their website! 25% if you order 2 or more! what is going on???? can i complain about this and how. I've put screen shots up for you to see.

why say get an extra 25% off

But it doesn't say that Grin it very clearly says OR 25% off, not extra

You get 25% off the original price if you buy two products.
You get 20% off the original price if you buy one product.

It is clear from the message.

It's horribly worded and I can see why you were confused, especially if the CS people gave you the wrong information too. If you read it really carefully it doesn't look like you should get 20% plus another 25%, but I'm sure a lot of people made the same mistake.

I'm actually surprised anyone could interpret it the way you did, OP. Seems totally clear to me that the 20% is the markdown on the webpage, and by buying 2 you get the additional 5%.

Quartz2208 · 26/11/2018 15:54

From reading your initial post I think the problem was the system does have a configuration error but not the one you think

So if you have 25% of two 39.99 products you pay 59.99

But if you take a further 5% off its 60.04

In which case it isnt applying it properly as actually it is taking off 5% after the 20%. This I think is what she was saying its not a true 25% off. If it really did only have 1-2 it should be 3) the configuration was definitely wrong for the deal

But it is very clear - the word extra appears no where in it. Its not misleading at all
