What do you do with baby when filling up in garage

Do you leave baby in locked car? Take baby in with you?

My Bank card never works at pump, so I have no choice but to go in.
I’m quite a new driver and I’ve not had to fill up on my own when I’ve got little one in the car with me.
What do others do?

BP pay at pump app.

MakeMineALarge1 · 26/11/2018 11:45

I just left mine in the car. I have never had a car worth nicking.

Nicknacky · 26/11/2018 11:45

Left baby in the car.

sonandhelpneeded · 26/11/2018 11:46

Honestly, I'd get a new bank card and pay at pump.

These posts will get lots of comments about risks of leaving baby in the car v walking through the petrol station with them.

sonandhelpneeded · 26/11/2018 11:46

Or use the BPme App!

Escolar · 26/11/2018 11:47

Leave baby in car.

ValiaH · 26/11/2018 11:47

Leave baby in the car unless they're distressed. I figure it's safer in a locked car than walking across the forecourt. Especially once they get to toddler age as well, and are walking and unpredictable

OlennasWimple · 26/11/2018 11:48

I always left young DC in the car - try to use a pump nearest the station so you can keep an eye on them

WooYa · 26/11/2018 11:49

I leave him in the car but I always make sure there isn't a queue so I'm in and out. I try to get petrol when DS is at home with DH because I don't like leaving him.

Allthewaves · 26/11/2018 11:49

Lock baby in car

Sindragosan · 26/11/2018 11:50

Leave them in the car. It's possible to take one in, but with 3 tots it's way too much hassle and safer to leave everyone in the car. If 3 are fine for the 2 minutes it takes to pay, one will be fine by itself.

Kittykat93 · 26/11/2018 11:50

Leave in car and lock door.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 26/11/2018 11:55

Take mine with me.

Would never leave them but also anything can happen not just your car being stolen.

I've seen people smash into cars at the petrol station and that was enough to put me off doing it.

2isabella2 · 26/11/2018 11:59

I leave mine in the car to go in and pay.

LagunaBubbles · 26/11/2018 11:59

It never crossed my mind to take any of my 3 in with me when they were babies strapped into a car seat.

Echobelly · 26/11/2018 12:01

Always left in locked car. I can't see how carrying them across the forecourt is safer, in fact I'd imagine it's less safe.

Jeezoh · 26/11/2018 12:04

One of my cards never works at pay at pump although there’s always money in there Hmm

I use another card or go to an Asda petrol station where you drive up to the cashier to pay. I don’t feel comfortable leaving kids in the car although it’s probably safer than taking them across the forecourt.

Snowwontbelong · 26/11/2018 12:07

Leave dc in the car.. Locked.
In my 40+years I have never seen a car ablaze on a forecourt.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 26/11/2018 12:08

There’s no correct answer. Half will say leave them in the car and the other half will say take them with you.
Anything that did happen would be a rare occurrence, but there are risks with either. I leave mine in the car, less effort and chances of car being stolen/ bursting into flames are very very small.

Highlandmary · 26/11/2018 12:09

I have NEVER seen anyone take children out of cars when filling up. Just leave them . .. it's commonly accepted as the norm. Unless you're in an unsafe area

chocatoo · 26/11/2018 12:10

Baby in car. Lock car. Keep eye on car whilst queuing to pay. Be as quick as possible.

TheChickenOfTruth · 26/11/2018 12:12

Used to manage a petrol station. In my opinion, kids are safer in the car. Pull up at the pumps nearest the window and you can keep your eyes on the car at all times; that's how petrol stations are laid out.

wrenika · 26/11/2018 12:16

I can't fathom why anyone would take them out the car for the short time it takes to pay for fuel. The chances of someone either stealing your car (which I assume most people would lock anyway to go and pay) or driving into the back of it, are surely far slimmer than the considerable risks associated with walking among so much live traffic!

pigsDOfly · 26/11/2018 12:17

Thesnobbymiddleclassone You've seen a car smash into another car in a petrol station? I imagine that's pretty rare, and how fast would they be going inside a petrol station.

On the roads on the other hand it's pretty common for cars to smash into one another, often doing 70/80 mph if they're on the motorway; I'm assuming you take your car on the road with your children inside.

Leave baby in the car, pop into the shop and pay. As long as there isn't a huge queue it takes a matter of minutes.

Get a new bank card
