If you exercise first thing in the morning do you literally get out of bed and immediately start exercising?

Apart from probably going to the toilet. I used to walk each morning. I now want to exercise from my house but can't seem to ever get round to it. I have an exercise bike. Do i change from my pjs first? Do i have breakfast first?

This makes me chuckle! When I wake up, my first thought is how long I can put off actually getting out of bed.

bumblingbovine49 · 26/11/2018 03:11

When I manage to exercise in the morning to DVDs and YouTube videos etc. I get up put on a sports bra under my pyjama top and put on a pair of slip on trail shoes ( no socks). Then I go downstairs, get a large glass of water and have or nearby to drink from. I Switch on the screen and do whatever exercises I have planned. Then shower, dress for when work and have breakfast.

It still seems to take me about an hour and a half to do 30 -40 mins exercise by the time I am done and ready for work

I just can't be arsed changing to proper gym stuff them changing again. If I.have to do that, I.always give up after a few days/ couple of weeks.

HellsGrandma · 26/11/2018 05:22

Coffee then chuck my mat down on the floor, you tube on and do it. I don't wear pyjamas, get up, shorts on, any top, go.

MissCharleyP · 26/11/2018 06:02

Up, running gear on, physio exercises (injured leg) then straight to the garage for a treadmill run. I prefer exercise first thing, I really struggle with cardio in an afternoon.

Nitpickpicnic · 26/11/2018 06:02

I’m starting down the ‘home morning exercise’ path too. Trying to figure it out like you are. I’ve decided to see school kiddo out the door first, then pull off pjs, pull on T-shirt & joggers. I’ll have had a cup of tea by then, but for my incline fast walking routine it won’t slosh around inside me too much!

This way I can jump straight into the shower after, get dressed once per day.

Good luck with your new health kick!

panago · 26/11/2018 06:16

I work out from home first thing. I wake up, pee, take my pre workout drink and wait 10-15 min then workout. No food. I have a shake after.

Oogle · 26/11/2018 06:23

Wake up, clean teeth, throw on gym clothes, have a glass of water and a slice of toast or small bowl of cereal then go to the gym. Some days, I grab a nature valley bar and eat half of that on the way to the gym and half on the way home. I hate exercising on a completely empty stomach.

McPie · 26/11/2018 06:23

2 boiled eggs on toast, 2 cups of coffee, toilet, dressed, toilet again then out the door for a run.
I can exercise after food no problem but can't at all without eating.

Winterhatsandgloves · 26/11/2018 06:25

That made me laugh, waking up and stretching in bed:) I quietly get up. I don't need an alarm really - I don't run if my body is exhausted etc. It's supposed to be fun:)

No, up, dresssed, maybe coffee. I jog first and then get going. I always walk the last 100 metres to cool down.

ronniemipperton · 26/11/2018 06:33

I am glad at least one other person eats before! I’ve just had a boiled egg on toasted sourdough with coffee, now to cycle to the gym near my work. The idea of eating breakfast at work really doesn’t appeal to me (plus I see making it as a time to adjust to being awake). I might eat breakfast afterwards if I was going home rather than to the office.

Cuzcothellama · 26/11/2018 06:36

When I do the 30 day shred, I get up, go to the loo, get my water, get into my exercise gear and start. You will need proper sports clothes, otherwise you will be uncomfortable and unsupported. I eat afterwards.

TAMS71 · 26/11/2018 06:40

If I don't do it first thing then I'm never going to do it. My problem is (which I'm doing this very second!) is if I get the laptop out, every minute that passes is dangerous. I clicked on this thread hoping it will motivate me to go out for a jog right now... Not sure it's working though. SIgh.

Toptheginup · 26/11/2018 06:49

Whenever I have done a morning workout at home I would sit with a coffee first, watch a bit news then after half an hour pit on dvd/youtube. I would take my mat, weights, large glass of water into the living room and start by doing some short stretch type you tune videos then as I get the blood pumping and feel more awake I'd do harder workouts. Always in pj's and no socks

BoomBoomsCousin · 26/11/2018 06:53

When I exercise first thing, like most others I get up, go to the loo, put on exercise clothes and then start. If I'm going to be working out hard (10+ mile run, say) I grab a banana and eat it first too, otherwise I start to feel faint part way through.

I don't know if I'd be awake enough to fall out of bed and immediately start working out in my PJs. Putting on clothes helps me get in the mindset.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 26/11/2018 06:56

For me:

Get up
Bathroom visit
Get into sport gear
Eat a banana
Stretch
Jog out the door

I find hanging around a bit pointless and runs the risk of you not exercising at all.

speakout · 26/11/2018 07:05

I have a coffee, then yoga class at 7am a couple of times a week,
Breakfast afterwards.

The gym is always busy at that time, swimming pool too.

I go home and shower afterwards.

chatwoo · 26/11/2018 07:07

I do Joe Wicks HIIT on YouTube in my living room. Get out of bed, put vaguely appropriate clothes on, put yoga mat down, fill water bottle, line up You Tube and get started. I hate doing it like that but it's the only time I don't have an excuse not to do it...

I don't eat until later.

generalexpert · 26/11/2018 07:10

5AM wake
Loo
Water + single espresso
Run 1 mile, stretch
Complete full run (6 miles ish)
Cool down
Shower
Breakfast
Work

I can do this when I'm travelling, only very hot/cold countries stop me, then it's a running machine.

StarfishSandwich · 26/11/2018 07:15

I faffed around way more before I had a baby. Now I drink a coffee and eat a cereal bar or a banana whilst I feed DS, hand him over to DH, get dressed, use the toilet and run.

We have bikes set up on turbo trainers in the shed but I could never work out in PJs as I get waaayyyy too sweaty and need a sports bra desperately.

Davidlives · 26/11/2018 07:16

If I’m exercising at home I get up, put on sports bra (sometimes on top of pjs Blush, wee, drink of water, exercise.
If I’m running it will be up, change, wee and teeth, coffee and banana, go.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 26/11/2018 07:18

Alarm goes off at 5. I sit straight up and get out of bed (otherwise I'd fall asleep again). Running clothes are on the radiator next to the bed. Put them straight on and out the door.

Sometimes I can't remember the first ten mins of a run as I am still so asleep. I think that's good though!

MaggieAndHopey · 26/11/2018 07:19

Don't have breakfast. Do have a cup of coffee (if you usually would). Do change out of your PJs!

Exercising in the home can be tougher motivation wise (I did it for years) - lots of distractions around you, other things you could be doing - so I find it's helpful to keep to a strict routine so there's no temptation to put it off for five more minutes.

LustyBusty · 26/11/2018 07:21

I actually sleep in my gym kit. Blush owing to schedules, the only morning class I can do that fits in with timings is at 0630am, half an hour away. I set the alarm for 0545 and the second it goes off, I get up. Put kettle on, pee, feed cats, make coffee in flask, grab (pre-prepped) bags of laptop, work clothes, shower stuff and lunch and jump in the car by 0600. Gently consider the possibility of waking up whilst driving to gym.

Nearthebig40 · 26/11/2018 07:22

Toilet, cuppa, chuck jodhpurs / coat / boots on and get on the push bike down to yard. Out the house in 5-10 mins. Muck out / ride. However.... very different when you have animals... you have to get up and sort them. Not like motivating yourself to run etc. Now that I’m in awe of!!
