If you exercise first thing in the morning do you literally get out of bed and immediately start exercising?

Apart from probably going to the toilet. I used to walk each morning. I now want to exercise from my house but can't seem to ever get round to it. I have an exercise bike. Do i change from my pjs first? Do i have breakfast first?

I often run first thing. Get up, running clothes on, straight out the door. Breakfast after.

I wouldn’t exercise in your pjs, it won’t be comfortable. Get some leggings, a sports bra and proper shoes. And I would eat after, or you’ll likely feel sick.

RJnomore1 · 25/11/2018 23:38

I get up and go straight to a spin class at 7.15 a couple of times a week. I eat when I get home. I'd be sick otherwise. Obviously I don't go in pjs!

Onestep2 · 25/11/2018 23:39

I literally roll out of bed and into gym clothes, out door and am at gym for 7am. Most time still half asleep.

Never eat b4 hand otherwise I would spew everywhere lol

4nonblondes · 25/11/2018 23:41

When I used to exercise, I'd get up, have a coffee, and then go.

4nonblondes · 25/11/2018 23:42

Exercising on a full stomach would be uncomfortable.

OhioOhioOhio · 25/11/2018 23:42

Thank you. But if you dont leave the house to exercise...

I often do HIIT first thing in my hotel room when I’m working away and can’t get to my usual classes. Up out of bed, gym clothes and trainers on, 25 mins HIIT, then in the shower and ready for work as usual. Breakfast always after working out or I’d vom!

I’m not a morning person but if I can force myself to get up as soon as my alarm goes off and do those 25 mins I feel so much better for the rest of the day Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 25/11/2018 23:43

I have to have two cups of tea and a coffee to hydrate and caffeinate myself first. Sports bra and t-shirt, leggings or shorts, shoes for most things.

sp00nfulofsugar · 25/11/2018 23:44

I get straight out of bed, have a wee, brush my teeth, pull on some clothes. Then I go downstairs, wake the dog and head straight out for a run with her. We're out of the door within 10 minutes of my alarm going off.

WeirdHandDryers · 25/11/2018 23:44

The thought of people turning up to early gym classes in their pyjamas has made me laugh out loud for the first time today, thanks guys 😁
I’d love to exercise first thing but I find myself sat on the sofa for hours trying to wake up properly. I’ve booked onto a gym session for 9.30 in morning, it will be the first time I’ve used my gym membership in months. It’s unlikely I’ll actually get there but at least I booked it - every little helps

pyramidbutterflyfish · 25/11/2018 23:47

I don’t mind exercising after eating, so ideally would have a small bowl of museli and glass of juice first. But if needs be I can get dressed, brush my teeth and start jogging 20 minutes after my alarm goes

heartshapedpositnotes · 26/11/2018 00:06

I love this vision of all these posters (whom I do believe, am just jealous), upon hearing their alarm they sit straight up, do a big advert-style stretch, then jump out of bed straight into action mode and out of the house within five mins 😆.

When I used to go to the gym for 7.15am it involved setting the alarm for 5.15, doing 30-40 mins snooze button, half hour+ cup of tea and getting stuff together, then eventually leaving the house at about 6.40. I tried leaving shorter timeframes to try to avoid the snoozing temptation, but that meant I didn't go at all.

Destinysdaughter · 26/11/2018 00:10

Wow I’m in awe of you all, it takes me about 20 mins to wake up and then need to have tea and breakfast before I feel even remotely human!

Winterhatsandgloves · 26/11/2018 00:35

I used to get up, put on my running things and dash out across country. This is in summer.

Then I discovered Pilates / yoga / ballet so now I set out my mat and routine ready to go on the iPad, wake up, make coffee and then do my stretches lying down in the warm! Perfect plus pjs are great for this.

CalishataFolkart · 26/11/2018 00:58

Those heading out for a run first thing - do you not do any stretching beforehand?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 26/11/2018 01:20

I so wish I could wake up leap out of bed and be out pounding the pavements within 10 minutes of waking, I have no idea how you do it, I think I would throw up! and I know I certainly would not be performing at my best, between 5 and 7 at night is my exercise time. Your description made me laugh heart that’s what I imagine as well I wish I was like them!

MrsTerryPratcett · 26/11/2018 01:34

Tea, change into clothes, wait a bit, wee, run. I do get up a varying amount of time before I go and tried lots of different types of food, intervals, blah. But I find no food, just caffeinated beverage is best.

Some people swear by all sorts of things; porridge, protein sachets, bananas... but I need an empty stomach. So even if I'm running a 10k at 9am (or whatever) I still don't eat beforehand.

Yeah, no. I moan and complain and when DH says, "enjoy your run" I say "I won't" or worse. Although I don't need an alarm Grin

MrsTerryPratcett · 26/11/2018 01:36

And @CalishataFolkart I stretch after, never before. I do walk 5 mins to warm up.

Barbeito · 26/11/2018 01:36

Isn’t it better for your body to have 45 min extra sleep than to get up before you’re ready to exercise?

BigChocFrenzy · 26/11/2018 01:50

Wake up
Swish some Listerine in my mouth while on the loo
Dress in T-shirt, sports bra, tights, hip bag with phone
Drink a glass of water

My door opens onto the Rhine path, which is motivating !

A few minutes jogging
Then do sprint intervals
Long jog with more intervals between

Some mornings, I cycle to the gym instead and do spin class, or lift weights

Eat afterwards, including protein.

calishata No need to stretch before exercise when the body is cold - stretches are better after exercise, when the body and muscles are warm & flexible

A gentle dynamic warmup is better, e.g. jogging
To cooldown, a few minutes jog and then walking works best for me - in fact I rarely do stretches & I don't get sport injuries.

Rachelle3211 · 26/11/2018 01:55

I throw on a sports bra and workout in my pj's. I'm too lazy to change my clothes.

sleepymouse · 26/11/2018 01:57

I find it easier to run first thing, so up, use loo, running gear on, stretch tgen out the door. The getting up is the hardest part, but I know if I don't get up and run then it won't happen so that's my motivation

TheLazyDuchess · 26/11/2018 01:59

I get ds ready, do the school run, have a cuppa then take my dog out for a walk, maybe a mile or two. Rarely as soon as I get up, even when I get the chance. It takes me a while to feel fully awake (am more of a night owl than a morning person).

TheLazyDuchess · 26/11/2018 02:02

*Then I go to work for a few hours, which is mostly exercise too (cleaning).

TheLazyDuchess · 26/11/2018 02:13

If I were you, I'd probably stay in pj's, have some breakfast and a cuppa first, music or a show on and go on the bike. Then a shower and either get ready or stick clean pj's on, depending on what I had to do the rest of the day and when.
