why brioche buns with burgers?

a - they're sweet
b - they fall to pieces before you've finished your burger, especially if there's a lot of filling.

AIBU to wonder why a more robust bun isn't used?

course it's not wrong! It's your food, you eat it how you want.

Mominatrix · 25/11/2018 10:25

Sweetbreads are pancreas (I think!)

They are thymus.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/11/2018 10:25

Making some brioche now...

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 25/11/2018 10:27

Sweetbreads are usually the Thymus glands, rarely it's Pancreas. Bad enough, but not testicles.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/11/2018 10:28

Such a nice name. Like Daisy Cutters.

justforareply · 25/11/2018 10:40

I had always been against brioche buns with meat but I had bacon on a brioche bun at independent coffee shop last week (with brown sauce) and it was heaven
Maybe saltiness of bacon with sweetness of bun?
I've always been against the idea of maple syrup with bacon but maybe I'm wrong

WhoWants2Know · 25/11/2018 10:57

I'm glad it's not just me that finds brioche buns on burgers weird. What's next, toasted teacakes? Scones?

potentiallypainful · 25/11/2018 12:16

I like a burger in brioche, not keen on the texture of a regular burger bun.

But I'd like proper thick cut potatoey chips, not those stringy fries. Or a sweet potato chip would be fine.

mangomama91 · 25/11/2018 12:48

Agree with @dementedpixie
Aldi brioche buns with sesame seeds, every time!

AlwaysWantedToBeATenenbaum · 25/11/2018 13:24

Oh but they’re amazing with pulled pork 😋 I know that’s not a burger really but yum

AlexanderHamilton · 25/11/2018 13:28

I don’t like brioche at all. Too rich & sweet so I’d eat somewhere else.

funinthesun18 · 25/11/2018 14:42

My dp once bought Brioche buns for sandwiches. Tasted more like cake with ham salad than bread!

TeenTimesTwo · 25/11/2018 14:47

YANBU. Our David Lloyd Leisure has started doing this, and with bacon rolls. They are disgusting. It is bad enough they have unsalted butter (which means I don't like their jacket potatoes) but now they have ruined bacon rolls and burgers. We used to eat there loads but every time they 'improve' the menu they make it worse.

oops. Sorry. this has turned into a DLL food rant.

Knittink · 25/11/2018 14:51

There are plenty of examples of sweet things that are commonly eaten with savoury things (including meat). Cranberry sauce, redcurrant jelly, chutney etc, not to mention things like maple syrup with bacon.
I like brioche rolls with a burger, and at 79 p for 4 in Aldi, I think I'll cope even if it is a way of removing money from the middle classes. Grin

FourFoxCakes · 25/11/2018 14:53

It’s glossy and shiny for photos for Insta.

QuestionableMouse · 25/11/2018 14:54

It depends on the filling. It can be nice with a good spciy filling.

BlytheSpiritsSpirit · 25/11/2018 14:55

This is a creeping Americanisation of junk food. Sweet things are for desserts.

AnotherEmma · 25/11/2018 14:57

YANBU

It's one of those wanky food trends and it's shit

Especially for people who are dairy-free and can't even have a bloody burger in a bun any more

skybluee · 25/11/2018 15:00

I agree, to me it tastes like a pudding. Would rather a normal bun.

VerbeenaBeeks · 25/11/2018 15:03

YANBU, this winds me up too! A lot of local takeaways have started using brioche buns. Just no!
1 - they're sweet, what kind of weirdo wants sweet bread buns with their burger?

2 - they're eggy and I can't have eggs. Give me a goddamn normal bun already lol.

loveka · 25/11/2018 15:04

I make the brioche, but with much less sugar. So a dessertspoonful in the mix rather than 100g.

MooChops89 · 25/11/2018 15:06

"What's next, toasted teacakes? Scones?"

Red's True Barbecue in Manchester do a burger with a ring doughnut as a bun. It's quite something!

AnotherEmma · 25/11/2018 15:13

I will concede that pulled pork and brioche buns go well together.

But burgers should be served with normal buns.

Bagadverts · 25/11/2018 15:30

Yanbu. I'm a generally don't really like a bun at all, but brioche is really bad.

Blacktoffeecat · 25/11/2018 15:33

I much prefer them. I find them lighter and less filling.
