why brioche buns with burgers?

a - they're sweet
b - they fall to pieces before you've finished your burger, especially if there's a lot of filling.

AIBU to wonder why a more robust bun isn't used?

That's a lot of chicken burgers formerbabe. What age is she? 😁

Don't find brioche falls apart with burgers. Though I say that as some one who's not had that many so maybe my sample pool isn't big enough.

Branleuse · 25/11/2018 09:40

I dont mind them but i do find them a bit sweet It does annoy me that all the independent burger places use them, as dp doesnt like them at all. I would rather have the option of a normal bread bun. As you say, theyre very sweet and they break up too easy.

Chimchar · 25/11/2018 09:41

I love burgers with brioche bun. I'm not keen if they're in normal bread rolls.

I find them lighter, less 'bready' and really like the taste. 🍔

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/11/2018 09:41

I assume that brioche is sweetened bread. I really want some now. With a slab of cheddar and a cup of tea.

StripySocksAndDocs · 25/11/2018 09:43

@lucydo a sweetbread is quite different from a bread that is sweet! It's meat (organs to be precise)

Yanbu - not a fan. I don’t eat so will normally get a halloumi or mushroom burger. Always comes with a brioche bun when the beef burgers are served with normal seeded buns. Restaurants seem to think it’s a selling point but it just puts me off

bokkleorandoove · 25/11/2018 09:44

*i don’t eat beef

Kewqueue · 25/11/2018 09:44

Sweetbreads are pancreas (I think!)

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/11/2018 09:45

I thought sweetbreads were balls? What do I know, I’m a veggie.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 25/11/2018 09:45

i thought they werent always sweet?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/11/2018 09:46

Just googled, oh yum.

SockQueen · 25/11/2018 09:46

Pretty sure sweetbreads are testicles. Not sure if you can eat pancreas!

Aridane · 25/11/2018 09:49

Will places like Byron’s which do the brioche buns be able to substitute with a regular bread roll? Or is it brioche or nothing?

MimiSunshine · 25/11/2018 09:49

@Chimchar I’m with you.

Normal bun is too filling for me with a burger too. End up taking at least half of the bread off but brioche balances out the meat taste for me

Fieau · 25/11/2018 09:49

I don't like burgers with a brioche bun, but have recently converted to having pulled pork in a brioche bun. The sweetness goes really well with the BBQ sauce. Grin

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 25/11/2018 09:49

Aren’t hot dog buns quite sweet too?

Rageagainstthepenguins · 25/11/2018 09:53

It’s often brioche or gluten free

luckylavender · 25/11/2018 09:55

I can't stand brioche either. Not helped by the fact I once made it with in France with my exchange family. Yea gods the smell of the yeast. I can still smell it 40 years later. Misses the point!

Oysterbabe · 25/11/2018 09:58

Aldi brioche burger buns with sesame seeds are the best.

I agree, they're lovely. I bought some for the first time on Friday and the kids absolutely demolished theirs.

Bloomcounty · 25/11/2018 09:59

I've got an idea that many American breads are much sweeter than we are used to here, from the reaction of my stateside friends when they first taste bread here in the UK. I suppose it's what you're used to. I get the sweet bread with strong cheese, having grown up in a family that paired digestive biscuits with super mature cheddar, and who thought christmas cake was a perfect pairing with wensleydale cheese.

Musseswoofles · 25/11/2018 10:03

YANBU.

I will only eat burgers in GBK now as they don’t do brioche.
Restaurants don’t seem to realise they’re excluding a whole world of non dairy eaters by having disgusting buttery sugary buns as the only option

flowerandflower · 25/11/2018 10:07

I love a brioche bun burger 🤨

Jackshouse · 25/11/2018 10:08

Yes, yes, yes.

AnnaMagnani · 25/11/2018 10:08

It sounds like an upgrade even though it isn't.

It is a way of removing money from the middle classes.

Love aldi brioche buns. We also have brioche hot dog rolls for hot dogs. Is that wrong?!
