Dear Santa
I hope you have had a fabuloos year with yur elvs.
For Christmas I would reeli reeli like a pellet hand gun wich looks lik a reel one. I want one so much so pleeese.

HELP!!!

OP posts:
GloGirl · 24/11/2018 14:17

"A gun is not a toy, Santa brings things they make in their workshop can you imagine an elf making a gun? What if it accidentally went off when they were hammering it and it hit Rudolf on the bum! He would go Oohh Oouch!"

Then mime hopping round holding your bum. If in doubt with my boys and I urgently need to change the topic I'll somehow make it about farts or bums and it weirdly works.

And then - "A pellet gun is really a Mummy or a Daddy present to get you and the shop won't sell them to us until you're 13 years old"

Sowhatifidosnore · 24/11/2018 14:25

Santa doesn’t always bring everything on the list at our house. And we preface W this kind of request with - are you sure you want to use a Santa wish on -[insert dangerous/ expensive) toy} cos i’m Not sure Santa wi bring it...

Grumpasaurus · 24/11/2018 14:27

Ha ha ha you should watch the Christmas Story, about the boy who wants a red ryder BB gun...

brizzledrizzle · 24/11/2018 14:31

Santa flies to deliver the presents and guns aren't allowed in hand luggage.

NatashaRomanov · 24/11/2018 14:35

Santa doesn't bring things that parents disapprove of.
Our daughter has always known this, and it has saved some arguments!

Parker231 · 24/11/2018 14:36

No one, child or adult needs a gun, toy or real. Toy guns or weapons should be banned. Guns only mean one thing.

Birdsgottafly · 24/11/2018 14:39

"Guns only mean one thing."

For many they mean protection.

GloGirl · 24/11/2018 14:40

Oh Parker, some kids love them. Swords, guns, lightsabers, water pistols, sticks, straws, lasers... it's all play.

Asdf12345 · 24/11/2018 14:44

There are some odd reply’s here.

Assuming they are as young as their spelling suggests I would go for a spud gun, but if they later develop an interest in target shooting than I see no reason why a suitable air pistol could not appear depending on age and more potent things in years to come.

In this house live firearms have been Christmas and birthday presents on a number of occasions.

bridgetreilly · 24/11/2018 14:45

This is why it's a very good idea to make sure your kids always include several things on the list and don't usually get all of them.

bridgetreilly · 24/11/2018 14:47

If you bring a gun into a situation for 'protection' or 'self-defence' you are more likely to be shot at, not less. That's why most guns are illegal in the UK and the kind you are allowed to own, under strict license, are not primarily designed for shooting at people.

pigsDOfly · 24/11/2018 14:48

No one needs a pellet gun, child or adult.

Certainly not a child who is writing to santa.

ghostsandghoulies · 24/11/2018 14:50

Parker - are you in another country like the US?
Nothing wrong with enjoying weapons. My kids (both sexes) have enjoyed them and are not violent at all.

OP - what about a trip to laser tag? My kids have enjoyed many paintball parties when they were a bit older than your son.

drinkygin · 24/11/2018 14:51

How does he even know what a pellet gun is?? Tell him absolutely not- Santa doesn’t bring dangerous weapons Confused how old is he??

Parker231 · 24/11/2018 14:51

It doesn’t matter whether they like them, they don’t need toy guns. Guns mean killing things. My grandparents lived through the occupation with guns faced at them every day. They would have been horrified if I had let my DC’s play with gun toys.

backinthebox · 24/11/2018 14:52

OP my son would love an air pistol, and even more problematic my dad would like to buy him one. He will be getting a nerf gun instead and carrying on his target practice at Pony Club - our's teaches shooting as part of their tetrathlon/triathlon training. When he is 10, and has shown sufficient commitment to learning how to be responsible we will let him have his own low-powered air pistol. But it will only be allowed out under supervision. According to the trainer, children running round with realistic looking pellet guns makes the PC blood run cold at the thought of what might happen if there were a misunderstanding. The supervision is very strict, but even so, my son loves his sessions. He's still getting just a nerf gun though.

Sethis · 24/11/2018 14:59

I was happily running around with cap guns at Primary age, and how they looked was a big factor on which ones I spent my pocket money on. Really wanted one that looked like James Bond's Walther, never liked revolvers much. Had some fun times playing in the garden shooting my friends and imaginary bad guys.

However that was the 90s. In the countryside. Today in towns and cities is a completely different kettle of fish.

I'd recommend Nerf over spud, but it depends on your sons age and how happy you are to sweep up bits of potato every day for a few weeks til he gets bored of it.

formerbabe · 24/11/2018 15:02

Well, it's fairly simple isn't it?!

Don't get him one.

Get him a nerf gun.

Job done.

FuzzyCustard · 24/11/2018 15:02

If he's young enough to believe in Santa, he is certainly not old enough to have, want or request a gun that looks like a real one. (And that's even if you think it's a reasonable idea at any age (which I don't))

Say a firm no.

ProfessorMoody · 24/11/2018 15:04

Parker, don't be a dick.

Guns mean killing things

No they don't. They can mean target shooting too and are used both for recreation and sporting events.

There are Nerf guns, laser guns, water pistols, spud guns, BB guns, cork guns, cap guns, toy guns - none of those kill people.

zenasfuck · 24/11/2018 15:04

Santa brings firearms to our house 😂
My 15 yo had one last year and is receiving one this year from Santa Grin
He is however a member of a shooting club and does competition shooting

For a small child nerf guns are great fun and that's what he'd be getting.

And for the cunts on here being arseholes about a small child's spelling - I hope Santa brings you a lump of coal Angry

CloserIAm2Fine · 24/11/2018 15:05

Just say no, Santa won’t bring things which are dangerous, ask him for something else

Act like the parent ffs!

GaryBaldbiscuit · 24/11/2018 15:06

spud gun

Purpleartichoke · 24/11/2018 15:06

Our Santa doesn’t deliver weapons or animals.

He would bring a nerf gun and maybe even a fun target (Pinterest is your friend here)

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 24/11/2018 15:07

Oi! Spelling twats, fuck off! You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Just tell him Santa doesn't like guns.
