Ice in white wine

I posted a while back about a wine waiter in a posh restaurant who wouldn't give me a separate glass of ice with my wine because he said it was sacrilege. Well I've just been watching Graham Norton and low and behold he has ice in his as well. AIBU in thinking if it's good enough for Graham it's good enough for me?

once had a barman outright refuse to put ice in as I would 'ruin' the wine. I did tell him what I thought of his opinion and reached over to the ice bucket and drowned my wine in lots of ice

Red wine drinker who only has ice in water here but, I thought they had to give you the ice separately as they could technically be prosecuted for watering down. Something to do with there not being a standard measure like there is for spirits.

A waiter in Belgium once refused to serve my mum a shandy as, "we do not do that with our good belgian beer".

I have been known to freeze leftover wine into ice cubes. Problem solved. Thing is, theres not often leftover wine in this house.

Frozen granite blocks /cubes cool your drink without melting... good for whiskey and wine too !

Can't believe you were refused! I work in a pub and yesterday had a lady in who had ice in her red wine 🍷 after a couple of glasses she moved on to a large wine in a pint glass with ice and topped up with soda... first time I've ever had that request but she was happy 🤷‍♀️

Each to their own but I would never ruin a lovely glass of white wine with ice. I would feel less strongly if it was a fiver bottle of plonk, Echo Falls or similar.

@sashh I've never heard of that and I've never been refused anywhere before now. He was saying it in a 'what a peasant' I am kind of way rather than any legalities. He certainly didn't offer to put some in an extra glass. Anyhoo's I won't be going back there in a hurry so both him and I are happy :-)

Frozen grapes are ideal. Wine

Unless it's illegal, and as long as you're paying, the customer is always right.

Bet they'd refuse to serve white wine with meat or red wine with fish ....
