To consider taking the day off work?

Hi all,

I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant and have just left the hospital after going up there for reduced movements. Baby is fine thankfully. I'll probably get home at half 12.

I have to be up at 5:15am to start work at 7. I feel slightly guilty as we already have a colleague on holiday so are short staffed as it is, but after doing an 11 hour shift today and sitting up at the hospital until gone midnight I cannot face the thought of work tomorrow (or today...).

AIBU for considering calling in sick? I've been in my new job almost a year and have never had any time off sick.

Take the day off. Don’t worry about it. Glad all is well.

It really depends on your relationship with work, but I would probably just be honest and say I need a full night's sleep (you're sleeping for 2 and rest is very important) and I'll call after that and tell them if I feel up to coming in because I don't want to leave them in the lurch, but I have to prioritise mine and the baby's health right now.

But my workplace is pretty mature, open and unionised.

A lot of variables however yanbu at all. A decent company would encourage you to stay off, especially as no offence but how productive is a 6 month pregnant lady with less than 5 hours sleep going to be on a 11 hour shift?

Thanks guys. I feel guilty about taking time off even if I am actually ill!

I have to operate machinery in my job and I don't think that's ideal on not much sleep.

if you have to operate machinery deffinetly take the day off, it could be dangerous to you or baby to do that work on so little sleep. any decent company would appreciate that

Take the day off and get some rest!!! Don't feel guilty either! Sometimes shit happens and you just need a day

CobaltRose96 · 24/11/2018 00:37

Thanks everyone. Just got home and about to fall into bed! Think I won't go in today after all.

Oh, and baby is now thoroughly kicking the crap out of me after not feeling anything all day! Naughty baby Grin
