Bleeding after childbirth...

I'm nearly 5 weeks post partum. My bleeding stopped completely a couple of days ago. It was brown and definitely old blood.

Yesterday I was surprised to see egg white looking mucus for the first time in months!

Today I've had some bright red blood mixed in with this egg white mucus.

Surely this can't be my period?

AIBU to be quite anxious re not knowing what my body is doing? I feel so out of control...

Forgot to add, I'm EBF day and night and it seems like he's constantly attached to my boob!

It could be. It is not a guarantee that breastfeeding will stop your period, lots of people's periods return before their 6 week check.

Sorry posted to soon. If this new bleeding lasts longer than 7 days contact your GP or raise it at you 6 week check. Your body is still going through lots of hormonal changes so unless you are bleeding a lot ( going through a pad in an hour) or are in extreme pain I would try not to worry.

i rang health visitor with something similar. They said it was my period. I didnt have another one for 6 months! Not sure what it actually was but I am fine. Would advise you to ring HV and look out for clots but most likely its just a postpartum thing.

I was EBF and my period came bang on 28 days after the birth, shocked me. Had only been free of post partum bleeding for a few days!

I bled for 13 weeks then had a period straight away and one every 4 weeks regularly on the dot. I breastfed for 13 months.... Mother Nature can be cruel!

Both my last 2 I bled on and off till 7 weeks. Stopping at times (and I thought it was done) then restarting (red but not heavy) I didn’t get period till 21 months with 1, 14 the other, fully breastfeeding. The 6 weeks is a guideline. If you are fully breastfeeding it is unlikely to be a period so soon after post oartum bleeding but it is possible.

Yep, for me that’s exactly what it was. Periods back at 6 weeks, just as bleeding stopped, despite ebf - rubbish!

I breastfed all of my children and my periods started back up a month after each of them and were spot on regular every month after.
