Kindle fire for kids or a cheap iPad?

It's for a 2.5 year old and she has a younger baby brother that can have it if she outgrows it in the next year or two.
She has recently learnt how to use our iPads to view kids YouTube and loves the independence of using it on her own, however can easily get onto other areas of the iPad... So far we haven't had any unwanted purchases or Facebook posts (as far as I'm aware!) but it's only a matter of time!

Don't judge... My children were never going to have tablets!!
This is simply a tool to allow me an hours peace to do breakfast, get myself showered, baby ready and her ready! It will also come in handy when we have a 6 hour car journey at xmas.

Kindle fire comes with a kids function doesn't it? Educational apps etc? I have a normal kindle but have seen it advertised.

As far as I know for that age a kindle fire is a great first tablet

Look on Amazon - great black Friday deals on the Kindle Fire

Definitely ipad. We had the kindle fires for our 2 and within a month I’d bought them iPads.

@NotUmbongoUnchained do you mind me asking why and what age your children are?

iPad, our kids didn’t bother with their fires at all.

I think the Kid's Kindle Fire also gets replaced if it gets broken, but check. And they come with the bumpers and kid content.

Ours (primary) have Kindle Fires, but not the kids version. We bought bumpers separately, DS broke his screen within a couple of weeks. I kind of wish we'd got them the kids' version.

I don't think they'd have benefited from an iPad, though we have iPhones etc. The Kindle interface isn't as intuitive. They mainly watch cbeebies on iplayer and a few games, whilst on journeys and sometimes at home.

We just found it slow, and it didn’t so everything we wanted it to do. Also couldn’t put nowtv on it which the kids use a lot.
They have iPad pros now with the pencils.
2 and 4.
