To put nearly six month old to sleep on her tummy as she hates sleeping on her back?

Even more so now that she has her first cold?

My LG is my first baby and it honestly feels like I’ve been hit by a train! On day 3 night 4 of her having a cold and she is usually an ok sleeper doing 4-8 hour stretches at a time.

Over the last couple of weeks she’s been rolling on to her tummy while asleep and she seems to prefer it.

Many times when I place her in her cot on her back she wakes up, she also tends to wake herself up coughing about half an hour later, although when she sleeps on her tummy she seems to be more comfortable and less bunged up.

Has anyone else had success with putting their baby to sleep on their tummy? I know it’s against guidelines and I have my health visitors words ringing in my ears but honestly don’t know what else to do :-(

Currently giving her calpol, used some baby vapour rub and she is having teething powder on her gums before bed, just feel really bad for her as she does not understand and seems to only want to sleep on us.

My partner and I have been taking it in turns to sleep and be awake with her, a bit like when she was a newborn, on the odd occasion she will go down in her cot she’s only in it for 2 hours tops.

Any advice or tips will be much appreciated? :-)

If she can roll over it’s fine? Once they start moving they can sleep in a position they prefer?

Mine all slept on their tummy as soon as they could roll over (18-20weeks ish) they much preferred it!

By this age with both my girls I would put them to sleep on their backs but if they rolled over on their front wouldn’t move them. Just make sure they’re not restricted at all.

Yes absolutely fine- she will probably sleep better too this way.

If she can roll off her tummy onto her back I would go for it. As a baby my DD2 always slept better on her tummy - still does aged nearly 7!

I myself sleep better on my tummy, especially if I have a cold, I know if I try to sleep on my back I feel more congested xx

I don't think I would put her to sleep on her front, if she can roll over, she will put herself in that position. If she can't roll, most definitely not put her face down to sleep (Imo)

Ds was made to sleep on his back as per guidelines. He was miserable. Didn't sleep more than 10 minutes at a time. I hated him. Then at 10 weeks he started to sleep through. And despite sn is a good sleeper. You have to put them on their back a. Sids is a reality which I would rather never happened to another mother ever. Sleep can be made up in other ways. Your baby is more important than sleep.
