to think it’s pretty mad to risk your job over this?

A couple of weeks ago a male colleague put up a load of posters of half naked women on the wall around his workstation.

He works on his own, a little bit out of the way so no one noticed for a while until we had some customers come in for a tour of the factory - our boss had a quick check round to make sure the place was tidy and saw them. Colleague was told to take them down. Colleague made a bit of a fuss but did take them down.

A few days later boss noticed he’d put them back up. Boss told him to take them down, colleague kicked up a fuss again but did take them down.

Yesterday boss noticed the pictures were back up again. Again, boss told colleague to take the pictures down and warned colleague that if he put the pictures back up again he’d be taking disciplinary action.

Colleague had a huge tantrum about these bloody pictures and then left. He hasn’t turned up for work today - not rung in or anything, just failed to turn up

I cannot fathom why someone would a) think these kind of posters are appropriate for a workplace in the first place, and b) get so angry about your boss telling you to take them down that you’d walk out of your job

Of course us women are a ‘bunch of snowflakes’ and ‘you can’t say or do anything these days without causing offence’ - when it was our male boss who noticed the posters and told him to take them down anyway Hmm

Madness!

Naked lady pictures at work is the hill he wants to die on. Lol. He must be extremely lonely.

Blanchedupetitpois · 23/11/2018 11:45

Crazy - sounds like he’s desperate to make a point, but honestly how far from societal norms do you have to be to think half naked pictures are suitable for a workplace???

Tinklewinkle · 23/11/2018 16:04

I don’t think he’s lonely, he has a wife and 3 teenaged kids at home

It seems madness to be that attached to these pictures that he’d walk out of a job.

I’m sure he thinks he’s making some sort of point.

There have been a few changes at work recently (nothing major, just stuff like we’ve moved the tea room into a different room and introduced a clocking in machine as they were taking the piss with hours and breaks, someone got caught smoking weed in the smoking shelter on a tea break) so I think he’s on some sort of crusade

Wow! There must be something more going on with him for him to behave like this. On the face of it it just makes no sense. I suspect he is hoping to be sacked for some reason or another. Maybe stuff going on at home and he just isn’t coping but can’t ask for help/time off to sort himself.

HollowTalk · 23/11/2018 16:11

I'd like to be a fly on the wall when this idiot explains to his wife and kids why he's not going to work.

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 23/11/2018 16:13

Good riddance

Threewheeler1 · 23/11/2018 16:16

What Anastasia said!

I have a wonderful DW, amazing DS, and a supportive family. Yet I'm the lonliest person you're likely to meet. Anyway, that's digressing. (and would never leave me to plaster psuedo porn around the office)

Clearly this guy has a problem with something. Really, the manager should have taken him (privately) to task over this with a mind to find out what on earth made him think it'd be ok, let alone defensible.

On a related note, work does have a duty of care to check with someone that they're ok if they don't show up - especially if there was odd behaviour before.

Or maybe he's just a twat.

I used to work somewhere that involved frequent movements of teams and desks around floors (and even to other floors). One particular employee was known (though never caught) to express her malcontent with dirty protests in the ladies room (thankfully yellow only)

FooFighter99 · 23/11/2018 16:21

Maybe they were of his wife.... Grin

RatRolyPoly · 23/11/2018 16:26

Some people have a problem with authority and will purposefully insist on doing something they know isn't allowed, just to show how "above the rules" they are. Often they get away with it cos people can't be arsed arguing with them, and they get extremely upset if you call them on it and point out there's nothing super special about them and you won't be begging them back into the office if they insist on breaking the rules.

Shock she peed on the floor?? Because she had to move her desk?

MissionItsPossible · 23/11/2018 16:32

I thought this was going to be about having a wee on someone's gate

Tinklewinkle · 23/11/2018 16:32

Thanks!

We haven’t made any frequent or major changes - we moved the tea room as they needed more space. The new room is much bigger so they’ve got room for a couple of sofas, small kitchen, etc and it’s just much nicer than the old one.

Colleague difficult to work with - he’ll argue with you if you ever ask him to do anything. I had to ask him to do a job in a particular way (still part of his job remit though) and he was so rude. He did it eventually, but not without arguing, tutting, eye rolling and general shitty behaviour

Boss did call him - colleague refused to come to the phone so boss spoke to his wife who said he wasn’t coming in

Floor, seats, sinks, you name it.

And there were large scale moves every couple of months.

Said employer had a high proportion of staff with physical and emotional difficulties.

AdamNichol · 23/11/2018 16:34

Returning to OP - straight to final written warning then.

HelenaDove · 23/11/2018 16:35

Hmmm Makes me wonder how he treats his wife at home.

IStandWithPosie · 23/11/2018 16:36

Shock Amazing. Who could be bothered to piss all over the bathrooms in a strop? Grin

sonandhelpneeded · 23/11/2018 16:36

What a bloody idiot!

Threewheeler1 · 23/11/2018 16:36

Yep, good point Helena.
I wonder if she knows what he did at work?

Seriously, what a snowflake. Wonder what he's told his wife about it, as I'd bet it's not the real reason.

RosieStarr · 23/11/2018 16:46

Sounds like a complete idiot, I’d sit back with some popcorn and watch him destroy his reputation.

frumpety · 23/11/2018 16:49

When you say half naked pictures , do you mean actual breasts on show or front and back bottoms ?

anniegranny · 23/11/2018 16:55

Back in the 80's when I was a civil servant we had a boss who had posters like these in his office . It was quite embarrassing to go in there! So I volunteered to sabotage them. I went in when he was at lunch and stuck large stickers over all the boobs etc which said " censored" ! After that he took them all down 😉

HopeGarden · 23/11/2018 16:56

What bizarre behaviour.

I can’t understand someone choosing this as a hill to die on.

Makes you wonder if there’s something else going on.
