Help £50 Nintendo DS

heartbrokenandtired · 22/11/2018 16:52

DS has been given £50

He's 6 and desperate for a Nintendo console

I know nothing about any of them

Obviously he doesn't have enough money for the latest

But is there one, even 2nd hand that he could still get games for within his budget?

And where do I shop?

Been trying to online shop but I don't know enough about any consoles to know what I'm looking for in his budget

nintendo 2ds are around the £40 to £60 range from cex.
its all in one piece so no hinges to snap like the dsi or 2ds xl so better for younger ones.
or could go for a wii, its fairly old now and no new games are made but its still fun for kids
cex you also get a 2yr warranty on them

If you top up his gift and maybe use a Cashback website then this is a solid choice.

dawnc27 · 22/11/2018 16:57

forgot to say these are 2nd hand

Ilovehamabeads · 22/11/2018 16:58

Does he want a console or a handheld? Console look for a second hand wii maybe. A quick check on eBay shows a few bundles going including games.
Handheld a Nintendo DSi / DS lite again second hand will come in under £50. I think I sold mine for about that including a few games!

Terribletweens · 22/11/2018 16:58

If he gets a 2ds or 3ds he could pick one up 2nd hand easily under his budget with some games, try FB or Cex shops (Cex is online too but then postage to pay). Cex sell games really cheap now for the ds/3ds.

heartbrokenandtired · 22/11/2018 17:03

Awesome so CEX seems like a good choice if there's a warranty

What type is he best going for (he's 6) all he really wants is Pokemon or mario or sonic

He has a wii I will one day get round to setting up he wants something portable

Can play Pokemon and Mario and Sonic games on 2ds

heartbrokenandtired · 22/11/2018 17:21

Ah I've no idea the difference in any

I can top up if need be a little

Because I'm obviously not a gamer and totally clueless I don't want to persuade him to spend his money because I think it's a good deal if it's better to go for one over the other

The new one is out of the question but I'm getting confused as some 2DS seem more expensive than some 3DS and I assumed one was newer than the other

2ds is basically the 3ds without the 3D bit, can play all the same games.

Hezz · 22/11/2018 17:29

You can get really cheap second hand (but boxed) DS games on eBay

Ilovehamabeads · 22/11/2018 17:55

There are 2 different 2DS’s I think. The one called ‘2DS’ doesn’t fold up. They then released the ‘New 2DS’ and that folds up again like previous versions. Those ones I think are more expensive, I guess because it’s newer. They both play the same games though, and you can still get loads of fab games for them, Mario karts, super Mario etc. Places like Game and CEX sell second hand 3DS games cheaply.

Allthewaves · 22/11/2018 17:56

2ds - my son's had his since 6. We got.it from argos as u can buy accident cover as we is very accident prone

bsbabas · 22/11/2018 17:59

If he has a phone he could get an emulator and download ROMs also fun for vintage gameboy.

heartbrokenandtired · 22/11/2018 18:33

No he doesn't have a phone
