I'm making a HUGE cake for 1 of my staff who's worked at our establishment for 25 years.
I've borrowed 2 tins from our cook and in doing 6 eggs, 1lb ingredients into each tin.
As you can see, they're rather large!
What temperature would you cook them on? I have a large electric fan range oven.
Thanks.

I would be doing them at 180 deg. The size doesn't really affect the temp, just the cooking time.

Thanks

Interesting, I would do them at 160 for longer because I wouldnt want the outsides to burn before the middle was done.

But put the timer on ...... I fear the photobombing red wine may prove distracting 😜

Kochicoo · 21/11/2018 18:46

I would do 160 too

I'd do 170 and be ready to put some foil over them if they look very brown. Also worth double lining the tins to prevent all the edges over-browning.

160 for longer and lovely of you to make your staff member some cake Smile

160 for longer. Also, if you cut an old tea towel into strips, soak it with cold water, then wrap it round the outside of the tin (tied with string) it will protect the outsides of the cake from burning and give you a lovely flat top.
