Aibu regarding dog groomer injuring my dog

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 16:57

Basically this. Dropped my chap off this afternoon for his cut, asked the man if he could drop him back when he was done, as he normally does. He dropped him back didnt say anything as he was on his phone, just nodded and smiled and handed me the dog. Dog greets kids and runs into the dining room. 5 minutes pass before i realise im covered in blood, theres bloody paw prints on my carpet and all over my wood floor in my dining room. Dont get me wrong its not pissing out but its everywhere. The groomer has cut the dogs pad on his foot. Its bleeding everytime he puts weight on it. My oh has come in calm and collected. I on the other hand am raging. He didnt even notice the dog was bloody bleeding!! I have left an unhappy voicemail. Aibu unreasonable to want a refund. Oh says these things happen. Ive had the week from hell and this is the straw thats broke the camels back.

Call them. Now. Tell them that your dog has blood coming from his paw.
Is it bad enough to warrant a trip to the vet?

waxy1 · 21/11/2018 16:59

They cut my doggy’s tongue once!

fuzzywuzzy · 21/11/2018 16:59

Oh god I’d be really upset too.

Is your dog ok are, will he need to see a vet?

Your poor dog!

Lovethetimeyouhave · 21/11/2018 16:59

I wouldn't be happy, but these things do happen, if he dog is ok maybe phone up again and ask why he didn't say anything, state you're not impressed and then use some one else.

TinyTwat · 21/11/2018 17:05

Is it possible the dog trod on glass or a sharp stone between the car & your front door?

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 17:07

Your dogs tongue!! How!
Ive left a voicemail as soon as i realised what it was. Not sure it needs a vet trip will wait over night. Bleeds everytime hes putting weight on. So have popped him in his crate. He looks very folorn poor dog. If its still bad tomorrow will take him to the vet. More pissed he didnt even notice. My house was covered in bloody paw prints.

tinytwat not really he parked right outside my house. You can also see wheres hes been heavy handed with the cut around the paw.

I agree that 'sometimes these things happen' but they should have alerted you to it, to avoid having everything covered in blood stains.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 17:10

flewog exactly can't understand how he didnt even notice he had cut it! There must have been blood. Bizarre.

He put his tongue out at the wrong moment and the scissors put a nick in it.

He’s white. He arrived home looking like he’d taken part in a massacre, but quite happy.

WhoWants2Know · 21/11/2018 17:15

Sometimes nicks and grazes do happen, it's true. Usually groomers keep something like a styptic pencil to stop the bleeding. It's not ideal that he didn't spot it, but I wouldn't necessarily go nuts over it.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 17:19

waxy1 Id have keeled over! May learn how to do it myself for future cuts.

My dog used to cut her paw from time to time - it gets everywhere doesn't it? I used to keep a couple of baby socks and put one on her after cleaning it up (to save my floors).

MatildaTheCat · 21/11/2018 17:32

My dog has frequently been nicked at the groomers. To be fair he has a few warts etc under his shaggy coat but I always point this out and ask them to be careful. They definitely ‘glue’ the injuries and I often don’t realise until a scab forms.

I’m with you OP, accidents do happen but they should be honest about it.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 17:36

It does get everywhere! Was shocked at the amount there was acutally. I would have been less mad if he had said "ive nicked his paw, just keep an eye on it" or something to that effect. But nothing at all
More mad about that i think, than the actual injury.

RangeRider · 21/11/2018 17:42

Stick a bit of tape over it, don't let him chew it & avoid walks until it's healed.
Groomer should have mentioned it, both from a keep an eye on it viewpoint and a 'don't let him bleed on the carpet' one!
Accidents happen & I'd not expect a refund (though it would have been nice to be offered one or a discount next time - if there is one), but I would expect an apology and a heads-up.

Prisonbreak · 21/11/2018 17:43

I am a self employed dog groomer and have never accidentally cut a dog (as yet) however I can see how easily it can happen. Dogs can make sudden unexpected movements and grooming tools are extremely sharp.
Having said that, if I had accidentally cut a pooch I would tell the owner and appologise.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 17:51

An apology would have been all i wanted. I would have left it there. Im more mad im now having to carpet clean my bloody living room, and just the fact it wasnt mentioned. It just looks like its sloppy work to be honest. Hes cut very close the skin on his chest aswel. Hes normally ok when ive used him. Looks like a rush job this time.

Dont know if you can see very well. Not great work in my opinion.

No idea why it posted twice 🙄

KurriKurri · 21/11/2018 17:58

It does look a bit of a rush job - it's very close on his chest - are those stripes on left side of the dogs neck from the clippers, or is it just the way his fur is lying ?

RiskIt4Biscuit · 21/11/2018 17:58

I found a cut on my dog's neck when she was last groomed by a professional. They never mentioned it to me.

It happens. I suspect that it happens fairly often because dogs are squirmy and don't sit still when they're given a trim, and that it's even worse if they cut the dog's nails as well because it is fairly easy to cut too much and make the dog bleed.

I trim my dog myself - not because of the cut, but because it's cheaper and quicker and she doesn't get doused in whatever stinky doggie perfume they use.
I've cut my dog by accident as well - it's really horrible (and I've changed scissors so it has a rounded end to give me more control), but the dog didn't seem to even notice.

BedsideCabinetisnotAvailable · 21/11/2018 18:00

I'm not sure how a refund will help the situation? But I wasn't use the groomer again and probably have a few cross words with him.
