Aibu regarding dog groomer injuring my dog

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 16:57

Basically this. Dropped my chap off this afternoon for his cut, asked the man if he could drop him back when he was done, as he normally does. He dropped him back didnt say anything as he was on his phone, just nodded and smiled and handed me the dog. Dog greets kids and runs into the dining room. 5 minutes pass before i realise im covered in blood, theres bloody paw prints on my carpet and all over my wood floor in my dining room. Dont get me wrong its not pissing out but its everywhere. The groomer has cut the dogs pad on his foot. Its bleeding everytime he puts weight on it. My oh has come in calm and collected. I on the other hand am raging. He didnt even notice the dog was bloody bleeding!! I have left an unhappy voicemail. Aibu unreasonable to want a refund. Oh says these things happen. Ive had the week from hell and this is the straw thats broke the camels back.

kurrikurri thats the cut! Havent checked the rest of him yet as hes sulking! Dont want to stress hin out. Theres literally patches where hes gone down to skin! Getting madder by the minute.
To be honest apart from the poor dog paw he keeps showing me for sympathy ans the pup eyes hes giving me, i dont think hes too bothered. My try him myself in future. I do his nails myself between visits. Its not his nail thats bleeding its the pad on his feet. Rush job i think.

Yeah the cut is poor from that photo. I’d be embarrassed to send a dog home looking like that

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 18:08

BedsideCabinetisnotAvailable it would cover the carpet cleaning stuff 😂
Its more principle. I paid for something, and its sub standard and not what i paid for. Surely a refund is fair. To be honest i could be being very unreasonable. Hence asking on here.

Yeah true 🤣

If there's any blood or carpet or fabrics- use cold water and cover in salt 😉

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 18:09

prisonbreak poor isnt it. Looks like hes done it with a knife and fork!

I'm in 2 minds! I'd be livid if it was my dog and would probably want to cut that man's foot to see how he'd like it, however the rational side of me thinks that it was likely quite difficult to groom the dog today (you said he was outside, was he in one of those small vans and the dog gets washed in the back?) He might have been squirming and making the groomers life difficult. It's dark out as well so it's possible the groomers genuinely didn't see the cut.

If it were me I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that it was an accident and that he didn't know about it, but give (calm and reasonable!) feedback to the company for them to check properly after. I wouldn't seek compensation or a refund unless there was a proper injury or you're not happy with the service as a whole and not just relating to the cut.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 18:24

PolPotNoodle no he only dropped my dog back off in the van. He grooms from an actual building!

OP posts:
Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 18:26

I may not have made that very clear. He always drops the dog back off in his van after he has cut him (literally this time 😂)
I dropped him st the salon at half 1 this afternoon. He dropped pup back off at 3.45 to my door.

I think this is just the last straw for you. These things do indeed happen and while I'd be worried pup was in pain he'd tell you.
The not informing you, poor job and the carpet would be my concern. I'd talk to the groomer and see what they have to say for themselves. I'd be very annoyed to have to clean the carpets. The fur will grow back and you can choose another groomer next time, should you wish.
A g&t, takeaway and some rest are in order for you! I hope you feel better soon and that pup heals well.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 18:41

SlippedMyIdiom i think your spot on that's exactly what im going to do Grin
Just one of those hideous weeks where you can actually see grey hairs emerging. And it's only wednesday 🙈

What breed is your dog? It looks like he has bald patches from a dodgy clip job?

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 18:55

He does have bloody bald patches from the cut. I noticed when i was re checking his paw. So the groomers not only injured my dog but looks like hes cut him with a knife and fork! Hes a collie cross lakeland terrier.

Before and after! Also mad he cut his beard 😂

My dog's a lakeland! I once nicked her ear when trimming it, she shook her head and sprayed blood all over my face.

Accidents happen, and if your dog is anything like mine he won't be an easy dog to groom. I've clipped my friend's Tibetan terriers a couple of times, and they've been a doddle by comparison.

Awful of him not to mention it though, he should have told you, and apologised.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 19:05

I love lakelands. The beards are my fav bit Grin actually hes really placid when they do it. They commented before on how chilled he is. Which is bizarre as hes mad as a box of bloody frogs at home! I eagerly await his apology, if he calls back that is.

I work in this industry and that’s a really poor cut. I would be inclined to call tomorrow and ask for a refund. Either the bad hair cut or the cut paw, but both is shocking, and I wouldn’t accept leaving it.
Accidents do happen but they should definitely have told you.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 19:08

Nesssie thanks for the advice. Especially as a professional yourself. I did think it looked pretty poor but im no expert, nice to know im right. Also good to know im.right for not being happy, and im not just an angry stressed mess haha.

Is he usually clipped like that? I'm wondering if someone else has clipped him rather than the usual guy

itbemay · 21/11/2018 19:10

Oh but he is so cute!!!

hibbledibble · 21/11/2018 19:11

Yanbu

That is really poor service. It's really rude of him to be on the phone while dropping your dog to start with.

Terrible they cut the paw, and even worse to not have noticed, or noticed and not bother to tell you. (How could they not notice a bleeding dog?)

Absolutely make a complaint.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 19:12

Hes very cute 😁 my little rescue whodunnit. 😂
Id have thought that but theres only him there. Hes the owner. Personally think hes just rushed it. He owns dogs himself, and shows them. Theyve won many awards, so he obviously grooma his own to show standard. Just noone elses Hmm

pigsDOfly · 21/11/2018 19:24

Poor dog. Hope he's stopped bleeding now. Sounds like the groomer was talking on his phone so he didn't have to talk to you, very rude to do that anyway when you're interacting with someone.

I picked my dog up a few days ago from the groomers after what was supposed to be her usual trim on her paws, with her claws trimmed if necessary and a trim round her bum. She's been having this for some time, every six weeks or so and I always reiterate what I want when I take her in.

I must be honest, I didn't really look closely at her when I picked her up, even though it was quite a bit more expensive than usual, which I didn't query as the price does go up from time to time.

When I got her home I realized that her coat had been chopped very unevenly all round her lovely mane - she's long haired - all her stomach hair had been cut short and the fur on her sides has been cut across, which makes her look like she wearing some sort of shell on her back. Worst of all her lovely flowing tail had been chopped straight across removing quite a considerable amount of fur. Oh and the fur on the back of her legs and bottom is completely uneven, one side looks as if it hasn't even been touched.

She looks a complete mess. I shan't be going back there again.

I imagine you'll be finding another groomer too OP, but given that your dog has actually been hurt I don't think you're unreasonable to expect some sort of apology at the very least.

Conseulabananahammock · 21/11/2018 20:12

pigsDOfly sounds bloody awful! Especially with a long haired dog, as its much more noticeable. I hope you had words with them about it! I will be finding myself a new groomer, and will be thoroughly researching before I take my poor fella anywhere else.

Dog grooming is an unregulated career so anyone can pitch up and call themselves a professional dog groomer.
To find out who has taken proper qualifications and had proper training have a look at www.thegroomersspitlight.com or .co.uk and it will show you who is qualified in your area.
