Aibu regarding dog groomer injuring my dog

Basically this. Dropped my chap off this afternoon for his cut, asked the man if he could drop him back when he was done, as he normally does. He dropped him back didnt say anything as he was on his phone, just nodded and smiled and handed me the dog. Dog greets kids and runs into the dining room. 5 minutes pass before i realise im covered in blood, theres bloody paw prints on my carpet and all over my wood floor in my dining room. Dont get me wrong its not pissing out but its everywhere. The groomer has cut the dogs pad on his foot. Its bleeding everytime he puts weight on it. My oh has come in calm and collected. I on the other hand am raging. He didnt even notice the dog was bloody bleeding!! I have left an unhappy voicemail. Aibu unreasonable to want a refund. Oh says these things happen. Ive had the week from hell and this is the straw thats broke the camels back.

That’s awful the groomer once nicked d dogs ear with clipper when she whipped her head away unexpectedly. By the time we got there dog had an appointment booked at vet (costs covered by groomer), bandage on, the groom was free, they were mortified.

I now groom my Tibetan Terrier myself cos groomer said she was too wriggly and she said it wasn't safe ..fair enough .
Bought some Andis clippers and do her myself now, she doesn't look as smart as professional groom but it's fine and she lies perfectly still on the table for me..just rubbish for the groomer..don't think she liked standing up being groomed..she is very lazy.

Cute dog, terrible haircut!
Bandage the pad and it'll be ok in a day or two.
Take a photo and tell the groomer how upset and disappointed you were to find your dog had been wounded. Ask what they intend to offer by way of recompense.

Thanks for all the advice its been very helpful. Off to demolish a bottle of gin. We were just cleaning out our 3 ft turtle tank and the arse fell out of it. Glass and water everywhere. Seriously bad week.
Is it sunday yet 😫

if you have flour in the house, put some on a side plate and place the dogs paw in it. Once the dog has stood in the flour and the paw is covered this should stem the flow.

His haircut is not the best is it? poor wee soul

OP what breed is your dog and what state did you send it to the groomer in?

"Down to the skin" sounds more like your dog had matts or damaged coat the groomer couldn't save.

Also nicks to the pads are common if they scissor them of if they clipper them and you have a wriggly dog. It's just the equivalent of a papercut normally but looks messier.

And as for grooming to show standard? 😂 dream on!! A show standard groom takes months if not years to perfect on one single dog and a 'show' groom would take hours anyway. Sadly not going to happen for a mutt and especially not for around £35-£40 a pop. Even a good breed standard groom you'd be pushing it for that price.

Most grooms should take 2hrs for a full groom - and that's still the doggy equivalent of a quick trip to the barbers for a clip and tidy. Even a basic groom is a LOT of work.

It seems to have stopped bleeding now there is no weight on it. So will see what its like tomorrow. Its not a good cut at all is it. Hes been sulking in his crate since he came back. Lucky hes got a coat to keep him warm on his walks, as hes practically bald in places.

ReflectionsofParadise there's pics somewhere in the thread. No matts or knots. And ive been informed hes extremely well behaved during grooming. Hes usually cut well by the guy. Just not this time.

Flour is good for stopping bleeding in animals and people, but self-raising stings.

Catzpyjamas · 21/11/2018 22:26

If it is still bleeding after a couple of hours, he probably needs to see the vet. The longer you leave it, the more difficult it can be to stitch/glue as the cut widens. Also he may need a course of antibiotics.
YWNBU to expect the groomer to cover the vet costs.

My groomer clipped my dogs leg during a groom once. He told us straight away when returning our dogs and had cleaned it and put some special powder on to stop the bleeding - he carried dog first aid equipment and had a dog first aid qualification. He gave us advice what to do and look for, would have covered a trip to the vets if needed which luckily it wasn’t as healed well and said there would be no charge for the groom. I still paid him though because the dog that got cut hated being groomed and goes a little mad wriggling everywhere and he always handled her so well.

I would never use your groomer again. Accidents happen but not making you aware or making any effort to help the dogs could is unacceptable. Poor baby :(

Hope your dog's paw is better now Consuela.

He's probably sulking in his crate because he's embarrassed and doesn't want anyone to see him with his awful new hair cut, we've all been there Grin

Thankfully his hair will grow back, which is what I keep telling myself with my dog.

Loyaultemelie · 22/11/2018 15:58

Hope he's feeling better now! I wouldn't overly worry about the cut paw, it could happen easily, but I would be annoyed the groomer didn't mention it. I really wouldn't be happy about that "haircut" though, I used to do our late Westie myself because once he got old he hated grooming parlours, the first couple of times he looked a bit like the specsavers ad but I wouldn't expect that from a professional. (I did get the hang of it so dog was much happier and not stressed and did look fine).
