Taxi to A&E

I'm 7 months pregnant and this evening I fell down the stairs, I hit my head quite hard and I've hurt my right leg and shoulder. My partner is working abroad this week so I'm home alone.
I didn't feel it was urgent enough to call an ambulance, so I called a taxi and asked them take me to A&E. When the taxi driver arrived they completely refused to take me!! AIBU to think that they should have taken me?

My Dad was a taxi driver and to be fair they do have personal liability insurance. Though I've no idea if what that driver said was true or not? Seems odd

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 21/11/2018 08:38

Hope you are ok OP

PartyPie · 21/11/2018 08:45

Thank you

Hope you’re ok op 💐

Aeroflotgirl · 21/11/2018 09:08

In your position, and a taxi is not going to take you, call an ambulance, you are heavily pregnant, you fell down the stairs and hit your head hard.

PartyPie · 21/11/2018 10:10

Aeroflotgirl yes, I did end up getting an ambulance. After watching the various programmes about the emergency services I was trying not to be a burden on them!

How did you get on?

GaryBaldbiscuit · 21/11/2018 10:33

Perhaps in future anyone wanting a taxi should just stay its for the hospital, or that you are visiting A & E ?

Weezol · 21/11/2018 10:43

If you have the energy, do report the driver to the company - I know that the owner of the firm I use would be very unhappy if one of their drivers was such a dick.

PartyPie · 21/11/2018 11:08

Dodie66 a broken ankle and two broken ribs but thankfully there doesn't seem to be anything serious. I've been kept in for observation but hoping to get back home this afternoon.

Weezol yes I am going to report the driver to the company, it won't cause him to lose his job though will it? I would hate for that to happen.

Oh dear, hope you’re feeling ok partypie.

I also broke my ankle falling down the stairs at 8 months pregnant, I started vomiting from the shock of it! Luckily my husband was home so took me to the hospital. Baby was fine (although I had a csection in plaster, which was no fun!).

Did you have X-rays on your ankle and chest?

GlitteryFluff · 21/11/2018 11:16

Bloody hell! Hope you have a smooth recovery. Thanks

PartyPie · 21/11/2018 11:31

Thank you.
Yes I had to have x-rays Sad I refused at first but they were pretty insistent and gave me a lead covering thing to use.

Get well soon you poor thing!

My Nct leader gave us tips on how to get into a taxi so they couldn’t refuse to take us to hospital when in labour, as it happens frequently apparently.

I had a taxi driver refuse to pull up to my house properly when I was very pregnant, on crutches (spd), and it was snowing and turning to ice. I slipped on the ice as predicted, as the cab driver stopped just over the worst section of iced pavement.

It was one of the only times my stbxh actually excelled himself (!) when I came in crying and hurt. He went up to have a stern word with the driver about being deliberately difficult for no reason, grrr!

I couldn’t bear to go back to the hospital, mainly because I’d have to get back in that same cab when he’d been so horrible (!), but really should have done after that fall.

I’m glad you were more sensible than me!

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 21/11/2018 11:56

Oh my goodness - hope you feel better soon.

meow1989 · 21/11/2018 12:00

Oh gosh you poor thing! Hope you have a speedy recovery, you absolutely did the right thing! Are you in plaster for the ankle? At least you should be out of it by the time baby is due is so. Have you got lots of support at home?

Houseworkavoider · 21/11/2018 12:04

You poor thing! Flowers
Wishing you a speey recovery

Jaxtellerswife · 21/11/2018 12:04

Well that sucks, feel better soon

Weezol · 21/11/2018 12:06

No (he's likely to be self-employed anyway) - he'll probably get a chat about customer service and a reminder about how important customer recommendations are in the business.

PartyPie · 21/11/2018 12:24

Yes I'm in plaster and fingers crossed I will be out of it by the time baby comes!
It's just my partner and I at home, this is our first baby (we had a miscarriage last year). He works abroad a lot.. he'll be back Friday night but is due to be away again the week after next.
I'll be just fine though - my main worry is how I'm going to get to work now Grin

Sod work!! You rest and look after yourself lady! Tell your employer a stranger on mumsnet ordered this 😂

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 21/11/2018 13:05

Crunchymum taxi is classed as public transport

newtothisriver · 21/11/2018 13:12

To the poster who works for 111, are you saying that if a person has a head injury the choices are public transport or an ambulance? Why no taxi? Surely if you collapse on public transport you are at more risk than if you have a funny turn in a taxi on route to hospital?

Taxis ARE public transport Confused

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 21/11/2018 13:28

Oh you poor love. I'm so glad you got seen to, you must have been in agony!! Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery

Starlight345 · 21/11/2018 13:31

Please put your ankle up and rest . Take at least the rest of the week off .

You do need to rest
