To think than any country who considers the death penalty for abortion cannot claim to be "leader of the free world"

Awful story about Ohio looking at making abortion illegal.

Ohio could impose death penalty for abortion

YANBU

Annajohnsdottir · 20/11/2018 15:06

YANBU. That's abhorrent. No woman should be punished, let alone killed, for having an abortion. This is some medieval stuff! What next? Bring back with hunts?

Annajohnsdottir · 20/11/2018 15:06

*witch hunts

BreconBeBuggered · 20/11/2018 15:07

Well, that's pro-lifers for you.

ImpendingDisaster · 20/11/2018 15:08

Horrifying.

MephistophelesApprentice · 20/11/2018 15:10

YANBU

Although it's par for the course for a country that makes it illegal to cross a road unless it's at a crossing. "Freedom"....

ErrolTheDragon · 20/11/2018 15:12

Yes. This shows the movement for what it is - not 'pro-life' but 'anti-choice' and specifically anti women's bodily autonomy.

pigsDOfly · 20/11/2018 15:12

Don't know what to say to that tbh.

Any country that allows the death penalty for anyone is iffy in the extreme in my opinion but that report is just chilling.

Binglebong · 20/11/2018 15:13

I am genuinely shocked over this. How about if someone goes to another state and gets an abortion -will she be arrested on her return? Not that it should be banned anywhere.

Simple solution, don't have an abortion in Ohio?

ErrolTheDragon · 20/11/2018 15:14

That really is a ridiculous trivialising comparison.Hmm

Very true.

I think what chills me most of all is that they want no exceptions even if the mother's life is at risk. 12 year old with cancer gets raped? (To use an admittedly extreme but not impossible scenario). Tough luck kid, you're expendable now.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/11/2018 15:19

Simple? Do you know how big Ohio is? How difficult it would be for a woman - especially a poor one - to travel to a different state for the various appointments required? (I mean, I assume you think pre-counselling and follow up etc are a good idea).

The solution is simpler, if you don't approve of abortion, don't have one.

Strugglingtodomybest · 20/11/2018 15:22

Scary stuff. They really don't have any sense of irony do they?

treaclesoda · 20/11/2018 15:22

Presumably best not have a miscarriage or a still birth in Ohio either then, because like witch hunts of old, you can be sure that there will be cases of traumatised bereaved mothers being accused of bringing it on themselves.

Where did I read about this recently? Paraguay or Nicaragua or somewhere?

pigsDOfly · 20/11/2018 15:25

scatterolight I'm sure the women of Ohio will thank you for that pithy insight if this becomes law.

Binglebong · 20/11/2018 15:25

treacle Mississippi for a start.

Mexico and Chile.

Pebblespony · 20/11/2018 15:28

USA! USA! USA! Hmm

ElizaBenson · 20/11/2018 15:34

Wow! They say the they want to give fetus' the same rights people, but this bill gives women less rights that fetus's as it would be illegal to "kill" a fetus but legal to kill a woman for terminating a pregnancy if the pregancy is putting her life in danger.... Thats just abbhorent

pigsDOfly · 20/11/2018 15:37

One of the vilest parts of this to me is the not allowing abortion for women who have been raped.

Just beyond cruel and spiteful.

KennDodd · 20/11/2018 15:44

Was it a man proposing this by chance?

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 20/11/2018 15:49

No words for how horrific and frightening this is. Sad
