I woke up with 103 temp and quite shaky at the moment. Hubby is completely bedridden due to spinal pain' child is well not one there to drop him what do I tell at school.

Lakie, the parent in your case should try contacting the Equality and Human Rights Commission. I believe they're prepared to fund disability discrimination claims in some cases.

Miscible · 19/11/2018 10:56

Husband lying in bed with back pain isn’t good for him either. Moving around and doing exercise is best treatment for back pain. Ibruprofen and a warm shower, the exercises can be downloaded from the Internet.

FFS. Now we're diagnosing back injuries on the basis of a few words on the internet. Don't people stop to think how absurd and, indeed, potentially dangerous this is?

acatcalledjohn · 19/11/2018 11:45

or even more likely, a cold.

Which doesn't need a GP's appointment and certainly doesn't need antibiotics.

Fair point, it probably is just a bad cold.

Thing is OP, going to a GP surgery is not a great idea when you have a viral infection. It's a place full of people that have lowered resistance because of their age or other medical conditions, thus making them more vulnerable to your virus. You should only go to the GP if you absolutely must. However, wanting to get antibiotics for a virus is pointless because a) antibiotics won't treat your virus and b) you'll likely spread the virus to people who don't need it.

Rest up, drink lots of water. Because there is no 'cure' for cold/flu symptoms.

That is really stupid advice to give to someone when you have neither the qualifications nor the patient knowledge to comment.

For some times of back pain moving around is recommended but by no means all and you can cause serious damage "downloading the exercises from the internet"

As ever OP, ignore self styled medics on the internet and take the advice of an actual doctor who has your actual records. Ditto for your husband.

"times" should be "types" obvs!

SushiMonster · 19/11/2018 12:31

Paracetamol. Coat over PJs. Call a taxi for the round trip. See if anyone will drop them home for you.

You’ll get more rest without the child at home.

Bornlazy · 19/11/2018 12:35

It’s 1230 the OP has either taken her child to school or hasn’t by now...

abacucat · 19/11/2018 13:24

There is a difference between back pain, and a diagnosed spinal injury. If the former, then lying in bed is the worst thing to do. If the latter, follow the medical advice given by Drs.

3WildOnes · 19/11/2018 13:36

The flu is not always a serious virus, you can have it mildly.

When my dad had swine flu (as diagnosed by his GP) he wasn’t bed bound, he just felt a bit rubbish.

Thanks for the tip. I didn’t know about this until recently but ironically I no longer really need the help as dd is yr6 and I can just drop and run / meet in the local car park. The school used to let me park on school grounds but stopped allowing me after extensive works for safety reasons.

That’s me. Pious. 😂😂😂 As op explained before you posted it was 10 mins. Nothing like 5 buses and 2 planes.

Mummyoflittledragon · 19/11/2018 13:51

Forgot to say. Glad you got your dc to school and hopefully you’re having some rest.

ellendegeneres · 19/11/2018 14:16

lakie I hope you don’t mind me saying, could you contact adult and old people’s soxia services and ask them about an assessment for direct payments?

A friend has them due to her disability and they pay for someone to take her child to and from school, something to do with supporting parents with disabilities become equal to those without. Friend has found it so helpful

NOTthepinkranger · 19/11/2018 14:20

Think I’ll be banned for this but oh my word allaboutme you actually need to find your brain

Allaboutmeandyou · 19/11/2018 14:23

Don't worry I shat that out a long time ago oh wait I think I left it on my pillow. Oh hold on.........................

TitsalinaBumSquash · 19/11/2018 14:25

Wow there is some real shitty responses on this thread because someone can't be Wonder Woman today and feels she wasn't strong enough to get her kids to school.

It's NOT the end of the world if they miss one day, you ring up and be honest, your don't feel well enough to drive/walk etc to school and if they can facilitate the DCs getting there then great and if not then they'll be having day off. Nothing will happen, your DC won't suffer.

I have done it before when I have been really unwell, we don't all have someone to help.

pinkhorse · 19/11/2018 14:29

It's clear English isn't op's first language. Maybe she didn't mean bacterial flu.

RedFallLeaf · 19/11/2018 14:33

I think there's a lack of common sense and the attendence policy has back fired when we're dragging sick parents and kids into schools.

Our school has sent a list of acceptable illnesses that kids can come into school with - bizarre! How much is a sick child even really going to learn. Let them rest. Not fullfill attendance stats.

Same goes for sick parents..rest up if your too ill to cope.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 19/11/2018 15:09

My daughter used to be a thumb sucker why do you think she became ill.

My DS still is a thumb sucker. Can’t remember the last time he was ill.....

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 19/11/2018 20:48

Hope you're feeling better
