Bacterial flu??

Hmmmmmm

Sirzy · 19/11/2018 08:21

First few hours of a bit of a temp doesn’t need GP! Even if it is flu then all you need is rest and fluids

Miscible · 19/11/2018 08:36

Mummyoflittledragon, off the point slightly, but have you tried contacting your local council about getting home to school transport for your child? Your DD wouldn't, I assume, come within the normal categories, but they are supposed to make reasonable adjustments for disabled parents.

acatcalledjohn · 19/11/2018 08:36

Bacterial flu? Hmm

No. You just have normal flu. It's the time of year for it, you just have to sit it out. Try to avoid the GP if you can as you'll just be spreading your virus. Plus you shouldn't really take antibiotics unless you have cause to; a virus won't respond to antibiotics. Chicken soup, fluids and bed rest. Take paracetamol to keep on top of the fever.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 19/11/2018 08:38

You just have normal flu

or even more likely, a cold.

Which doesn't need a GP's appointment and certainly doesn't need antibiotics.

Rockbird · 19/11/2018 08:47

At what point did the OP say the GP appts were related to how she currently feels? Jeez...

Fluffyears · 19/11/2018 08:47

What the hell is bacterial flu? Flu is a virus!

paintinmyhairAgain · 19/11/2018 08:48

ah, flu but well enough to go on mn, surprised no one mentioned that Grin

Antibiotics are wonderful pills. But don't ever think they'll cure all of your ills...

CherryPavlova · 19/11/2018 08:56

That’s a temperature of 38 centigrade so not especially high. Paracetamol and get on with life. Sounds like you have a cold.

Husband lying in bed with back pain isn’t good for him either. Moving around and doing exercise is best treatment for back pain. Ibruprofen and a warm shower, the exercises can be downloaded from the Internet.

Allaboutmeandyou · 19/11/2018 09:05

I would not advise telling your dh to do any exercise from the internet. I think he should get advise from his GP first or he could risk injuring himself more.

RudolphsJinglingBalls · 19/11/2018 09:05

@Mummyoflittledragon Please dont sound so pious. You aren't the only person in the world to have long term health conditions and you do not get to dictate what other people as "you know best". You don't. This family could live 2 bus stops and a 20 minute walk away from school. The school age child could be 5 but they could also be 10. And at any school age, my children have been able to look after themselves with a sky remote and me on the couch asleep.

Under these circumstances I would not worry at all about getting the child to school. If you feel bad now, you could feel 5 times worse later and then how will you collect your child? It is a one off, not a regular occurrence so let it go.

Bornlazy · 19/11/2018 09:06

A temp of 38 is a trigger for sepsis if you have other symptoms. 101 is 38.3 and 103 is 39.4 which would make you feel like crap. The OP has not said what any of her symptoms are other than being shaky yet people feel qualified to tell her she sounds like she has the cold. Honestly some of the advice given to people on here is downright dangerous.

RudolphsJinglingBalls · 19/11/2018 09:07

All the people jumping on this woman, for god sake! its is obvious from her post, the structure of her sentences that either English is a second language or they may struggle . Leave them be for fucks sake. You are like a bunch of judgemental bloody vipers.

Madratlady · 19/11/2018 09:08

Bacterial flu doesn’t exist.

Allaboutmeandyou · 19/11/2018 09:09

How do you think the flu starts if its not bacteria then what.

Devilishpyjamas · 19/11/2018 09:10

Flu is a virus.

Footle · 19/11/2018 09:10

Yes, why bother seeing the GP when 30-odd mumsnetters have diagnosed you with total accuracy?

OP's first language is not English. Perhaps she's misusing the words bacterial and flu to describe a condition she's had before, which she knows needs treatment.

And how helpful of someone else to encourage the husband to take the child to school instead.

You know bugger all about these people.

Footle · 19/11/2018 09:12

X-posted with Rudolph. Glad I'm not the only one to think this.

Allaboutmeandyou · 19/11/2018 09:12

It all starts of as bacteria.

SnuggyBuggy · 19/11/2018 09:13

One day off now and then won't do them any harm. Obviously with a long term condition you need a backup. I'd take some paracetamol and rest and fluids for today.

Devilishpyjamas · 19/11/2018 09:14

It all starts of as bacteria

No it doesn’t. It’s a virus.

You can get a bacterial infection following a viral infection (measles notorious for that), but flu does not start as a bacteria and does not usually need antibiotics.
