Some of the knowledge on here about viruses and bacteria is depressing

JassyRadlett · 19/11/2018 09:17

How do you think the flu starts if its not bacteria then what.

For real?

One of the family of influenza viruses.

LilMy33 · 19/11/2018 09:18

You don’t need to see a GP for flu and you definitely don’t need antibiotics! I don’t even know what bacterial flu is?!

A 20 minute round trip isn’t so bad definitely preferable to see it through than have a bored child at home all day when you’re not well.

Allaboutmeandyou · 19/11/2018 09:20

If your diet is crap then what comes out is crap. She has a weak immune system. Regular hand washing is essential to keep the bugs away. Depending on what is wrong with her she may need antibiotics because she hasn't told us what is wrong with her. The doctors tell you never to use google ad now they should tell the yummy mummies not to use mumsnet.

SnuggyBuggy · 19/11/2018 09:21

When did her diet come into it? Do bad diets also start from bacteria?

Sweetie, I agree it’s best if we all take out medical advice from professionals. Or at the very least those who know the difference between bacteria and viruses.

Allaboutmeandyou · 19/11/2018 09:23

My daughter used to be a thumb sucker why do you think she became ill.

Bacteria? All the world's ills start from bacteria

Conseulabananahammock · 19/11/2018 09:25

Bacterial flu.... my days

WorraLiberty · 19/11/2018 09:28

ElectricMonkey I was going to say the same thing.

Franinipancake · 19/11/2018 09:31

She's ill, tired and trying to make arrangements to get her child to school. Maybe she typed the wrong word. Geez.

Hope you feel better soon OP. I was on my own with my daughter for many years and I had to phone in sick a couple of times when I couldn't make the half hour journey to school. One time was Norovirus and I couldn't get up off the floor. The school were fine about it. I followed up the phone call with a note when she was back at school. I'm in Scotland though.

RhiWrites · 19/11/2018 09:37

Ah mumsnet, “however sick you are children must go to school” and “you’re not sick enough for the GP” all in one thread.

With a healthy dose of “you used the wrong word, you ignorant fool”.

Feel better soon OPFlowers

DishingOutDone · 19/11/2018 09:54

Rhi Sad

OP, go to the doctor whenever you want if you feel its necessary, and keep your child off school if you have to FFS unless they are sitting a GCSE on that one day. I wouldn't even be asking.

Please get well soon.

OneStepMoreFun · 19/11/2018 09:55

Ring another mum and ask them to collect yoru child. I've done that before. Even someone I don't know well. I did it for others too. People are kind. They will help.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 19/11/2018 09:59

In your frothing and preaching , some of you must have missed the post where OP told us she HAD taken her child to school !

iIcouldsleepforaweek · 19/11/2018 10:02

I hate when people use the term 'Flu' for a bad cold

LagunaBubbles · 19/11/2018 10:03

How do you think the flu starts if its not bacteria then what

Oh good lord. You're embarassing yourself. In case you still don't realise the answer is a virus. It's a viral infection. Hence the flu jag vaccinations to protect you against the most common viral strains of the flu.

LagunaBubbles · 19/11/2018 10:04

Op whst age is your child? Could they be trusted to walk themselves?

Afternooninthepark · 19/11/2018 10:10

I can’t believe in this day and age with so much information available online people are still so ignorant over bacterial and viral infections, this is way so many people still demand antibiotics for viruses, GP’s must feel like banging their heads against the wall. There is no such thing as a bacterial flu. And going to the gp with a virus and sitting in a busy waiting room full of old people and babies is down right selfish.

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 19/11/2018 10:12

Bacterial flu Hmm in 6 years of medical school I never heard that one

EvaTheOptimist · 19/11/2018 10:13

My colleague has just been off sick, he said the doctor told him it was bacterial bronchitis. And he was given antibiotics. So perhaps that is what OP has... probably best to leave her and her GP to it?

SnuggyBuggy · 19/11/2018 10:16

I'm surprised no one has lectured the OP about not "having a village"

Allaboutmeandyou · 19/11/2018 10:17

Laguna at least I am trying to defend the op what are you doing to help. Yes sorry of course you are showing of your intellect, well done. Op I hope you get well soon and you get what you need from the doctor that helps you recover.

LakieLady · 19/11/2018 10:42

off the point slightly, but have you tried contacting your local council about getting home to school transport for your child? Your DD wouldn't, I assume, come within the normal categories, but they are supposed to make reasonable adjustments for disabled parents.

Our LEA doesn't. I couldn't get any help for a (single parent) client who'd had a stroke and suffered frequent bouts of seizures, as well as impaired mobility (enhanced rate of PIP in place) and memory issues. The school was an academy and doesn't give a shit about anything except attendance figures and their suggestion was for her to home educate them! The poor woman can barely string a sentence together, and that's on a good day.

All her PIP mobility money goes on taxi fares to school for the kids.
