Cervical check and ttc

Posting here for traffic. We’re currently ttc dc2. I have an appt this week in a private hospital for a smear test due to the chaos with the cervical screening program here(Republic of Ireland)
I’ve been waiting ages for the appt and I’m currently in the tww, I don’t know what to do.
Is it safe to have the smear test now? I’m quite anxious to have it done as I have a history of mild changes, last one in March was clear, but it was tested in the USA which is why I’m spending a fortune having a private test.
I could wait and ask the doctor on the day but in that case I’ll have to pay €200 for her to possibly tell me not to have it done, it’s €300 if I do have it done, I’d really appreciate any advice or opinions.

I wouldn't be jeopardising my health personally. I'd be having the smear, especially given your history. Smile

Thanks for the reply! Thats what I’m thinking too

Could you ring the private hospital and ask for some advice/reassurance?

LorelaiRoryEmily · 19/11/2018 16:53

@Mumw I took your advice! Rang and the very helpful🙄 secretary told me that I’d have to wait until the appointment to ask questions and by the way it’ll be €230 for The consultation now and €100 for the smear!

Well that was helpful, not.

No, not super helpful at all. I’m in the waiting room now.

You can look for the NHS advice here. Basically you can get it done but it's harder to interpret the results if you do happen to be pregnant at the time. They usually recommend waiting until after pregnancy unless you have a history of abnormal results. I would go get it done and just explain at the hospital. Better still call up in advance and ask their advice.
