I had to call them because of a letter they sent to me.

I don't have a home phone so used my mobile.

Just got my e-bill and the 17 minute call (15 mins on hold) cost me almost £9

AIBU to think this number should be free or low charge?!

People calling this number are obviously in reciept of benefits or needing to be.
How can they justify charging them £9 for a call? Sad

That is 50% Of my usual bill!

What network are you on and what type of number did you call? An 0345 number shouldn't cost that much, it should be a normal call charge.

FoxBoxRox · 18/11/2018 10:15

08435060359

backaftera2yearbreak · 18/11/2018 10:21

WrongKindOfFace · 18/11/2018 10:21

Oh shit, did you get it from a site like this? contactnumberuk.net/esa/

They charge you to put the call through. Complete con.

FoxBoxRox · 18/11/2018 10:23

I don't know :( I just googled ESA contact number.

Feel so daft if it's not their real number Blush

Where did you get that number from? I think it's a call forwarding scam number. Next time use 0843 504 7178 or 0800 055 6688.

Sallystyle · 18/11/2018 10:24

I had this confusion because I couldn't work out why I was charged. I was charged that much for the phone call where they did the initial assessment. I don't remember how I got a number that charged me as it was a long while ago.

backaftera2yearbreak · 18/11/2018 10:26

Always look for numbers in the .gov.uk website. Sorry this has happened to you.

Dockray · 18/11/2018 10:32

This happened to my organisation. We have an 0300 number but scammers advertise as us with an 0843 number- one even changed our numbers on Google maps. They forward the call to us so customers were unaware until they got a huge bill. We now have a warning on our telephone line to tell people if they have called on an 0843 number to be careful and giving the correct number.

gallicghoul · 18/11/2018 10:49

There's a brilliant website called say no to 0870 and they have all sorts of alternative numbers in there for major organisations.

Quartz2208 · 18/11/2018 10:52

yes call forwarding scam

allhdghd · 18/11/2018 11:19

I had to call them because of a letter they sent to me.

just googled ESA contact number.

Why did you not call the number on the letter Confused

FoxBoxRox · 18/11/2018 13:18

I didn't have the letter on me when I called. I'd just read it and then tang later in the day when I wasn't home.
