Shriek, I'm just quoting what amazon said and I would say ask rather than order. But if you have this problem with it amonsnt others, then you have this problem too.

And best before I'll take the risk. They'd be bored shitless within five mins, 🤣.

Shriek · 21/11/2018 19:21

bluntness my comment was based on evidence of 'Alexa' being abused quite widely, hence the use of the word ordered, or told, yes, asked questions of, but generally an entity there to serve, funny its a female.

As for Amazon, they have a vested interest and are hiding behind legalities in a situation that makes it farcical really. No respect for this, its outrageous tbh.

Didn't understand then you have this problem too ? Or And best before I'll take the risk. They'd be bored shitless within five mins

feral · 21/11/2018 19:29

Ooh mine comes tomorrow....

Dorabean · 21/11/2018 20:15

This is the best thread! We have an echo dot and we have just been reading this thread and playing with her. Thank you all, it's been hilarious!!

Kahlua4me · 22/11/2018 03:21

There was a 6 year old girl in Dallas, America, last year who inadvertently bought a dolls house on Amazon last year. She was playing with her toys and said “Alexa, I would like a dolls house please”.

A few days later the £130 house duly arrived must have to the shock of her parents.

Anyway, a news reporter picked up on the story and was relaying it to the viewers. She finished by saying how funny it was that the girl said “Alexa I want a dolls house”. This resulted in a flood of complaints as many houses then had dolls houses delivered as their own Alexas heard their name and did as requested! 😂😂

Bluntness100 · 22/11/2018 07:42

I think that's a bit of a urban myth, you have to confirm voice purchasing and interact over it. So it's not possible.

CarolDanvers · 22/11/2018 07:51

I can’t purchase directly on mine. She puts it in my trolley at my request and then I have to go on to my Amazon app to confirm purchase so I can’t see how the dolls house thing happened really.

Kahlua4me · 22/11/2018 08:33

I did read it on several news sites, just shows you can’t believe anything any more!

However, it is funny anyway even if it isn’t true!

Bluntness100 · 22/11/2018 09:23

It can't be true. It's just not possible, it doesn't work like that.

I'm quite surprised at rhe nonsense people post, like it secretly records all your conversations and keeps transcripts, starts chatting to you without being woken, remembers things you talked about when its secretly recording you then tries to get you to buy it, doesn't have the songs you want from the millions available, buys stuff without you knowing, can hear you throughout the house, let's you drop in on people without them knowing and let's you secretly listen to them, allows the government, hackers, amazon secretly monitor your conversations at home...it's really not that advanced and some of the suggestions are simply off the wall bonkers.

Even though smart phones and computers are way more advanced, apparently a twenty quid smart speaker is the devils work.

Shriek · 22/11/2018 16:09

Well, Bluntness, you don't actually know how it works after saying that though, do you?
It doesn't work, for a start, on recording 'whole convos'. It does track, and for that reason significant data is available to assist in this murder enquiry; it is aware of who's doing what, when ppl come home, what part of the house they are in and so on.

To be honest I think many are really quite naive about data.

'Her', 'she'?!?!

Shriek · 22/11/2018 16:10

Its about as farcical as calling strangers friends on farcebook

Dragonglass · 22/11/2018 17:08

How can it know what part of the house someone is in? Unless they have one in every room. Which we don't .

And it's a computer it is not 'aware' of anything.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 22/11/2018 17:27

How can it know what part of the house someone is in? Unless they have one in every room. Which we don't .

Exactly. They don’t have “eyes” you know!

I just asked mine “who is at home?” ... it told me the name of the town I am in. I asked “who is in the house?”... it spotted off some stuff about the House of Representatives. I asked “where is [name do DS]”....it said “Hmm I don’t know”. “Who am I” gets “I’m not sure who’s speaking but you’re in BuggerOffs account”.

It REALLY doesn’t monitor our movements..... 😂

Shriek · 22/11/2018 17:46

You'd have to ask the experts how its done, but don't take the piss or expect it to tell you that info, its exactly the data that the investigators are after because of location of IP addresses on devices I can only assume, so no, not stupid 'eyes'. It doesn't need eyes really does it, however, its a known that devices also do record through cameras

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 22/11/2018 18:10

Amazon Dot and Echo don’t have cameras though!

Honestly how in hells name does it know I got home at 3pm followed by DS at 3.40. The echo is in the kitchen and the dot is in the living room. I didn’t even go into either of those rooms until 4pm and the first time I spoke in one of those rooms was when DH came home at 5 and asked what was for dinner.... OMG Alexa now knows we are having lasagne for tea 😱

Bluntness100 · 22/11/2018 18:15

This is getting nuttier by the moment,

Anything else it knows shriek? 🤣

Shriek · 22/11/2018 18:15

Noone said they did. Read it, it didn't say that

Shriek · 22/11/2018 18:17

Now you'r just goading bluntness

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/11/2018 18:20

Well obviously it’s not going to tell you if you ask it directly bugger. They’ll have programme done it to deny all knowledge of where exactly you are in the house so it doesn’t give them away. Wink

Shriek · 22/11/2018 18:30

Oh haha
It has data on IP addresses which is what the police are after

FranciscoGoya · 22/11/2018 18:34

Shriek do you have a link to an article about this case? Because I can't understand what you're saying.

Shriek · 22/11/2018 18:39

No...not seen it, but will have a look for you

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 22/11/2018 19:06

I do hope there will be enough tinfoil for me to wrap my turkey in once all the conspiracy theorists have finished making their little hats. 😂

Whitecottonsheets · 22/11/2018 19:14

It outlines Alexa doing similar things to what you are talking about Shriek
