Strange and sudden bruising on baby

So I'm ready to get flamed for seeking advice about this but d's 14 months has a dark bruise near his armpit. It has a lump in it too. It's sore if you touch the lump. Should I go to a n e or wait till Monday. Ds is happy and himself no temp. He's not fallen funny. It wasn't there this morning. I've taken pics for Monday I'm in two minds weather or not it's serious enough.

What could they do? Would they not say it's just a bruise

He's very young. If it's a sudden dark bruise or rash and lump no one in A&E will criticise you for going in. Weekends are a tough call with babies but you should go with gut instinct I think

I would be going straight to A+E and accept to be told I was being ridiculous rather than wait and see...

I would suggest - at least call 111. My dd had some weird bruising on her legs and feet when she was about 9 months. It turned out to be nothing - they though perhaps a reaction to a virus - but were worried it might be a blood disorder. That was more than 1 bruise though.

Weekend or not children are usually prioritised in my experience

111 will tell you to take him in I imagine. But better to call them first then if someone acts like you are wasting time I'm A&E, you can say you went under advice from 111.

How it works up here is we ring 111 and if needing to go hosp then 111 call ahead and hosp will say if they want us or not I'll give them a ring

Like a PP said, it’ better to go home feeling a bit silly but reassured.

Always get unexplained bruising checked out. My brother had leukaemia as a child which started out as random bruising.

Where is the lump? Is it under his arm?

Around me 111 can get you an out of hours GP appointment - it's not A&E or nothing. That's what they did when I massively overreacted when I banged DS's head

This happened with my dd strange bruise which turned into a hemangioma (birth mark) don’t think it was sore but we still got it checked

I love how everyone is all "ooh yes get tothe nhs"
and yet every singe case has been not worthy of A&E

So waiting for a call back to get him to see a doc. Don't have a walk in centre where I am and some weekends they close the a and e here as they don't have the staff so will be next hosp over . And He's just fallen asleep.

When my Dd2 was about 9 months old she had a really weird, long thin bruise appear at the top of her armpit, and it ran toward her shoulder for about 3 or 4 cm. It had a little gland like lump underneath it. Took her to the GP who said it was just a bruise, albeit a nasty looking one (I've never seen such a dark purple red one before) and that it should just fade. Go back if it gets much worse. It faded over about a week, never to be seen again. No idea to this day where it came from or how she did it. Gave me a bit of a scare at the time though.

A&E staff would rather people took kids in than worry they'd be wasting time, and then for something bad to happen to the kid or for something to be missed.

Unexplained bruising (when there are no known knocks/falls) should reviewed by a doctor. A simple blood test can rule out leukaemia and other scary blood disorders.

I'd definitely take my child in. Can't be too careful x

My dd got a circular bruise with a pale centre and a little lump in it, on her rib when she'd just started toddling. It was a shock to see it and she hadn't fallen or anything but then figured out it lined up with the edge of the coffee table which she used to walk around. I put arnica on and it went away so fast.

Definitely agree to get this checked out.

You made the right decision to call the doctor - 9 out of 10 times it will be nothing but strange bruises can be a sign of leukaemia.

Far better to be safe than sorry.
