Ashley Roberts on Strictly Come Dancing

She’s ruining my enjoyment! She’s a professional dancer and it’s very obvious. It’s like a professional ice skater competing on Dancing on Ice, why??

OP posts:

They have to have a variety of abilities or it would be very boring. You want to see people doing something amazing now and again. They also always have the "comedy" or hopelessly clodhopping contestants who eventually go, but add interest and fun as well.

And I agree the ones with pro dance training rarely win, because the audience is wise to it and they are usually not the most popular.

Crinkle77 · 17/11/2018 20:19

She will get to the final but the British public won't vote for her to win.

derxa · 17/11/2018 20:19

I hate her

SinglePringle · 17/11/2018 20:19

Alesha - stage school trained.
Emma Bunto - stage school trained
Caroline Flack - stage school trained
Faye Towzer - stage school trained

Shall I continue?

Thing is, SCD attracts performers. Performers are often trained

See the circular thinking here?

frankie001 · 17/11/2018 20:19

I’ve noticed that Ashley is normally on last. What’s that about?

OzzyMadBat · 17/11/2018 20:20

I am happy she is on it - her dad killed himself this year and she needed a distraction - I am glad she has this. She is not the 1st or last ringer on the show nor will she win. Smart bets are on Joe or Stacey but I am not going to be begrudgy towards Ashley or Faye, they might not do it for me personally but they have their role on the show.

divadee · 17/11/2018 20:22

I like the ones that start shit and get better. The ones that start good and stay good is not entertainment. Ashley gives me the rage. I want Charles to win.

OzzyMadBat · 17/11/2018 20:22

derxa hate's a bit strong!?! You know me, I was the biggest Ranj fan and agreed with you on Seann...but I can't hate on someone who's had such a shit year, it's just not in me.

Squidgee · 17/11/2018 20:22

I dislike Ashley, but even if she has had some dance training, she is still learning these dances brand new.. she doesn't have a background in Ballroom.. .same with Faye.

I would love Stacy or Joe to win, but I wont begrudge it to Ashley or Faye either, they all did an amazing job tonight.

FatherBuzzCagney · 17/11/2018 20:24

Completely agree OP. A ringer (Kara, Jay, Caroline etc) is one thing but someone whose main job has been dancing is taking the piss. It's like when Louise was on Strictly after having been a judge on another BBC dance competition. She was less annoying, though.

OzzyMadBat · 17/11/2018 20:28

8th, last, 8th, 13th, 4th, 6th, 7th, 3rd, last

Ashley has closed the show twice. (pimp slot)
She's never opened the show or had the death slot (2nd) but she isn't closing the show every week no.

Crinkle77 · 17/11/2018 20:28

Frankie I said exactly the same thing.

NotTheFordType · 17/11/2018 20:29

Oh god, is this something about TV?

LadyinLavende · 17/11/2018 20:31

I would like to see Kevin win.... unfortunately I loathe Stacey, so I'm really hoping that Joe pulls it off....I am so impressed with him - as far as I am concerned it's as if they'd taken a random bloke off the street, although to be honest I'd never heard of most of the slebs before the series started.
I'm also a big fan of A.J. so fingers crossed that the public vote keeps him and Lauren in tonight.
I'm rather fond of Pasha too, so I'm hoping that he's in the final.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 17/11/2018 20:35

She shouldn't be on it.

It's different for someone who has always worked as an actor but has done a few dance classes years ago at theatre school. Ashley made her living as a dancer. Just like the (lovely) Debbie McGee last year.

For all their bleating about how they are not THAT sort of dancer and how it's all so HARD and it hurts their brains we don't believe a word of it.

toomanyjobsin1day · 17/11/2018 20:36

I can't stand Ashley. It's annoying that she could already dance like a professional, but the way she acts grates on me...

toomanyjobsin1day · 17/11/2018 20:36

Plus why did not she go on the American version...

derxa · 17/11/2018 20:37

derxa hate's a bit strong!?! You know me, I was the biggest Ranj fan and agreed with you on Seann...but I can't hate on someone who's had such a shit year, it's just not in me. You're right. Anyway I've just given Stacey 5 votes.

Ofalltheginjoints · 17/11/2018 20:38

I know what you mean OP! I hope that Stacey wins as at least she started from a no dance background.

I’d love to see Lauren win but I don’t think she will make the final as she isn’t as strong as some of the other dancers (Joe for one) but I love her!
Faye has training from Steps (ok not ballroom but knowledge and experience of choreography even if the steps routines were fairly easy) but I like seeing the progression too so your Kate’s, Graham’s etc

OzzyMadBat · 17/11/2018 20:40

Ah good on you derxa Brew Cake I wondered if she might be in danger tonight but the judges will save her over any of the bottom 3.

SinglePringle · 17/11/2018 20:41

Piper just because you don’t believe a word of it, doesn’t mean it’s not true.

I danced ballet, contemporary, jazz and tap from 4 to 18. Then college from 18 to 21. Carried on dancing for fun post college (proper classes). Tried ballroom at the age of 27. Was shockingly bad at Latin (out of hold).

It ain’t the same.

OzzyMadBat · 17/11/2018 20:41

More interesting will be if the public vote can override the judges yet, my maths is crap, I always forget which week that kicks in.

FatherBuzzCagney · 17/11/2018 20:42

how they are not THAT sort of dancer

That annoys me too. It's like claiming that someone who has a degree in modern languages is going to find it as hard to learn a new language as someone whose only contact with foreign languages is oredring beers on holiday. It's such obvious bollocks.

ForalltheSaints · 17/11/2018 20:43

At least Strictly is about learning a skill and is reasonably impartial when it comes to judging etc, unlike the offerings Simon Cowell is involved in.

I'd make a difference between say Debbie McGee, who was a dancer many years ago, and Ashley Roberts for whom it was much more recent.

Holidayshopping · 17/11/2018 20:43

I want the final to contain...

Stacey
Joe
Charles
Faye
