Especially for a nine year old. I'm stuck for Christmas ideas!

Well some people have privacy concerns (personally since we all seem to have smartphones with microphones I'm unconcerned on this one) but we have dots in the bedrooms and a big Echo downstairs - and the kids use theirs a lot to play fucking Baby Shark and other equally annoying songs to sing and dance along to (I monitor the history of what they're listening to so I do keep an eye on it) - and DD1 (bit younger - she's nearly 7) hooks it into her microphone to sing along to.

We have an Amazon music subscription though so it's got a huge music library to pull from.

I love the one in our bedroom which we have set to play the radio at a certain time (I'm forever forgetting to set the clock radio alarm) on a morning, and I like the short news and weather briefing on it on a morning while I'm getting ready upstairs.

You can set the Dot etc to a child setting (if they’re in their own room. Wouldn’t be so handy on the kitchen or sitting room Echos)

Our 10 year old loves it! Grin

@ReverseTheFerret Baby Shark is bad enough, but this morning the kids asked Alexa to play ‘What does the fox say’, which she did, but it was Mr Tumble singing it! Just far too bizarre a set up 😂

My dd plays word games with it or ask it jokes and she has developed an obsession with the weather.

My 9 year old has one. That isn’t a high bar though because we ended up buying a bulk package. There are 5 scattered around our house and we are probably going to buy 2 more. They are both surprisingly useful and a wasteful indulgence at the same time. The two features I use the most are adding to the shopping list and making house-wide announcements.
