In all honesty I have lived in London for many years and enjoyed it but I'm not a shopper and rarely go to shows, what I enjoy most is walking my dogs and going to little dog friendly cafes. I could do that anywhere, but my life is here. My elderly parents, my adult kids, my friends. If i could persuade everyone to go en masse i would. Also, the hate is one way, most Londoners don't gnash their teeth about the rest of the country.

There may not be any hate, but a lot of Londoners can be very patronising about the rest of the country. This is probably why the "hate" is only one way.

My family do this so it isn't just an MN thing.

Usually when people wax lyrical about the art and culture available in our capital I always wonder how much they actually visit musuems/art gallery/go to the theatre/classical concert etc.

Of course there are more museums, art galleries, theatres, options for eating out in London. It is England's biggest city and capital, but some Londoners give the impression that anywhere outside of London is completely devoid of any of these, and are populated by philistines

My DF moved to London when I was eight so I split my time between Yorkshire and London. Some areas of London are far worse than nice parts of the North, quite scary in fact. I love London but I’d never live there.

Londoners are more than one thing though, just like the rest of the UK. You have the recently arrived immigrants, dyed in the wool Londoners, Richie Richs, Yummy Mummies, very poor people. There's a stereotype of thrusting, rich professionals with Chelsea tractors and over privileged opera going kids. Lots of people are perfectly ordinary - and very broke due to all the Bastard Richies and Yummy Mummies paying £27 for a coffee! I do agree services should be spread more evenly throughout the country but London has most of the financial sector and has to be fed. We are all benefitting from the money that brings in i would have thought. Disclaimer - failed my economics A Level.
