Was I out of order or bus driver

DD age 5, has mutiple disabilities including organ failures she has a special chair although she can walk is mobile for short periods of time. However she is attached to IV bags for 16 hours.
This morning we had a hospital appointment but we had to take her attached to things as nothing has finished yet.
So at the bus stop there is 1 stroller and is with daughter in chair.
Bus arrives and I needed to get on it there was no way we could of waited. The stroller managed to get on first but as she was getting on I did shout over to driver there’s a wheelchair, as there was another stroller already on. He didn’t care and then once I got to door I asked if we could get on, he said only if we didn’t block the aisle which we would of as at this point the lady had parked by the other stroller and wasn’t moving.
This is a London bus that clearly states pushchairs much make room for wheelchairs and they have priority.
Anyway so he shut the doors and I took a photo of the front of the bus.
He then re opened the doors and told us to get on and asked the strollers to make room he then shouted and slammed his door to his seat area on front of my 5 year old that it’s a pushchair and it isn’t my job.
In the end the aisle was blocked and I stood with chair by bars holding on. ( visible equipment attached to the back )

How awful. No YWDNBU. There's a disabled transport charity called Transport For All. They'll help you make the complaint ascend chase it up if needed.

www.transportforall.org.uk

ChaosMoon · 15/11/2018 16:15

And, not ascend!

lovetherisingsun · 15/11/2018 16:16

Some stroller parents can be utter selfish dicks. I saw a thread on here once, this woman was utterly adamant she wnbu - she had a non-folding full on buggy thing but said because "she was on first", she refused to get off the bus for the poor wheelchair user who was waiting at the next bus stop. Beggars belief. Wheelchair users always, always, ALWAYS, have priority over pushchairs etc.

eddielizzard · 15/11/2018 16:17

Revolting behaviour from bus driver and pushchair mothers. A little kindness and consideration would have solved this all. What a wasted opportunity.

Alwaysbekind2014 · 15/11/2018 16:19

This was all I got off bus is it enough ?

Ywnbu, wheelchairs should always tale presidence over a pushchair unless of course it's a disabled buggy. The bus driver was unreasonable

Kamma89 · 15/11/2018 16:20

YWNBU. Bus driver was BU. Not sure why original buggy user is getting so much abuse though! Only the buggy user who got on at the same stop as OP was BU. If the buggy user who was already on the bus had folded up or got off for OP that just rewards the stubborn rude later buggy owner for their selfish behaviour. Sounds like you handled it well OP. It's a shame no other passengers spoke up though.

ShatnersBassoon · 15/11/2018 16:21

Tell them which stop and route it was and the time you got on the bus. They'll know who was driving.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 15/11/2018 16:23

It will be if you include the route, stop and time!

Good luck!

Birrdy · 15/11/2018 16:24

The people with the strollers were unreasonable and so was the bus driver. What pigs. Some people's behaviour is really unbelievable.

RiverTam · 15/11/2018 16:24

buggy owners were very unreasonable, as was bus driver, but equally he shouldn't have to tell other buggy owners to shift, they should do so automatically.

MuddlingMackem · 15/11/2018 16:27

Looks like that's the bus reference number on the corner nearest the camera, so if you know the stop and time they should be able to check who the driver was.

And YWNBU. The woman with the pushchair who got on at your stop was, however, VU. She should have let you on first and only got on if there was still space for her.

Samcro · 15/11/2018 16:29

ywnbu report the driver, he was bang out of order.
the 2 parents were scum.

bakingdemon · 15/11/2018 16:32

Fill in the complaint form here: tfl.gov.uk/help-and-contact/contact-us-about-buses

The Supreme Court ruled that wheelchairs have priority over pushchairs so the driver should have waited for other passengers to make room for you.

Missingstreetlife · 15/11/2018 16:34

Contact transport for all, copy them, your mp and mp for disability into your complaint. Grrrr

ShineOnHarvestMoon · 15/11/2018 16:36

YANBU.

The people with the strollers were. They were the selfish unreasonable people.

I do feel for bus drivers - particularly London bus drivers. They have to manage driving the bus safely in heavy traffic, taking fares (not in London, I know), managing difficult passengers, seeing people at stops, keeping to timetable, and keeping everyone safe. All on their own (bring back conductors!)

highinthesky · 15/11/2018 16:42

I feel for you OP. Life must be difficult enough without having to encounter this.

What support is DD getting? From your description, she is seriously unwell: without knowing the details I would suggest that she perhaps could be accessing more help with mobility?

ILoveAutum · 15/11/2018 16:42

I’m sorry to hear about your DD, I’m sorry you had this hassle this morning and I’m very sorry that the passengers and bus driver all acted like absolute fucking twats. They’re all a complete disgrace and should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

Unfortunately the only one you can report is the driver and yes, it IS his fucking job, cockwomble.

Big hugs for you and DD

ILoveAutum · 15/11/2018 16:45

ShineOn. He doesn’t have to be a bus driver if he doesn’t like the job. The OP’s DD has no fucking choice about her ILLNESS which was particularly evident given she was attached to stuff.

How you make any excuses for a grown man not helping, job or bloody not, and shouting right in front of a very sick little girl that it’s ‘not his job’. Don’t you think you should save you sympathy for those more deserving?

yumyumpoppycat · 15/11/2018 16:49

ywnbu. urgh that's horrid. Hope buggy user at the bus stop reads this thread.

SinkGirl · 15/11/2018 16:51

Yeah, this is why I’ve only ever been on the bus with my twins twice! They are only 2 so still use a standard double buggy but one has a visual impairment and other health issues - I wouldn’t be able to take them out and keep them safe, and I need to be able to test his blood and administer treatment if he needs it during the journey. When he’s older he will probably need a special buggy while the other can walk, but right now it’s like any other buggy and no one could tell he’s disabled. I’d hoped it would be easier if you had a special adapted buggy but I guess not! Sorry you had to deal with that.

ALongHardWinter · 15/11/2018 16:53

You were definitely NBU. Although I find this incident shocking,I can't say I'm surprised. I've witnessed a few similar incidents on my local buses. I've come to the conclusion that a hell of a lot of pushchair users don't give a damn about wheelchair users, child or adult. It is the bus driver's responsibility (apparently) to enforce the 'wheelchairs get priority' rule, but in my experience, most of them don't. Whether they just don't care,or are too scared to,I don't know.

CrazySheepLady · 15/11/2018 16:55

The driver and the other mother were out of order for not making space. I find this disrespect and lack of empathy towards disabled people absolutely shocking.

I think you should go to the media with this. Much more awareness is needed.

Alwaysbekind2014 · 15/11/2018 16:55

So because if she can walk as in when not connected she is not entitled to mobility dla although only walks short lengths. So we can not get a mobility car despite using her chair whenever we leave the house and having to take equipment with us.

OP posts:
Sirzy · 15/11/2018 16:58

She should at least get LRM, not they that would make you entitled to motsbility but worth checking
