To not want to smack my toddler?

My Ds is 2 and a half years old. His a lovely little boy but at times can be challenging. He has no underlying problems a part from a speech delay so sometimes it can be hard to communicate with him.

He is going through a phase at the moment where he throws things and this can be troublesome when he is angry as the things he throws can hit someone. It nearly did today. I gave him a time out but he will later on just do it again.

He has also started hitting me. Be it not hard but I want him to know it's not ok to do this to me or anybody. I don't want to smack him but what can I do if time out isn't working and communication is hard also?

If you hit him, you are teaching him to hit others when he is frustrated.
My advice would be to try to remember that this is a phase that will pass, and when you are in situations where he's got the ammo and likely to throw something that will it someone, you stay right next to him and watch him like a hawk.
Just because his communication is not great or doesn't mean he can't understand you.

I say that as the owner of a 2 year old too, they are bloody hard!

I used to tell my dd that we do not smack in our houseThat included me.We also don't throw things inside.
It is hard as they get very frustrated and don't have the words to tell us but can understand if you tell them that you know this is how they feel.
I know how you feel but it gets easier as they get older but also as you give them ways to manage it.
