So many threads involving time and money spent on either their own or partners hobby, but never any mention of what the hobby is. Perhaps there is some sort of hobby hierarchy that I am unaware of where some hobbies are seen as bragging and some down right embarrassing.

OP posts:
JaffaBiscuitNotCake · 15/11/2018 16:20

@MrsKoala I just came here to say my DP's hobby is Airsoft, and also my DS to a lesser extent!

If I was posting a thread with personal details I wouldn't mention it because along with other things it would make me too identifiable.

I don't care though as name change regularly and don't post too personal stuff anyway

Sweetpea55 · 15/11/2018 16:23

Mine is genealogy

anniehm · 15/11/2018 16:24

Not sure if many mums have time for hobbies, or at most we flit from one thing to another - does reading the guardian and watching iPlayer count. Just about to run on the treadmill but I don't count exercise as a hobby, it's an unwelcome obligation

Allergictoironing · 15/11/2018 16:29

So, does no-one else go LARPing then? You're all missing out!!!

Oops, missed that one (another one I didn't do but friends did), and AD&D, and painting bloody AD&D (and similar) figures.

Oh and Canicross, and clay pigeon shooting (national level). Breeding rare breed bantams.

All of which are comparatively rare hobbies Grin

Persiangirl · 15/11/2018 16:32

My hobby is napping, walking my dogs and reading AIBU avidly everyday!

ReflectionsofParadise · 15/11/2018 16:49

Running. Crochet. Writing erotic fiction.

Hocusypocus · 15/11/2018 16:53

Mine is decoupage and up-cycling

DP's is football and moaning

PlatypusPie · 15/11/2018 16:55

There’s an mner that never says what instrument her dc plays because it’s rare and outing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Dc is apparently genius level on said instrument. Can anyone find Instrument X

Alpenhorn ? ABRSM are missing a truck if that isn’t on the grade listing.

Art - I paint and draw, but not with any intent to sell or exhibit. Thus not professional - but I also lecture part time on art, which I am paid for , thus professional in that aspect. I read about and visit exhibitions and galleries for pleasure but also some of this will be bound to inform my lecturing, even if it not directly.

Is this still a hobby ?

I always picture the ‘my DH spends 4 hours a night on his hobby ‘ as either one of the more obscure martial arts or as creating a very large and detailed model version of a famous battle.

bookworm14 · 15/11/2018 16:58

My hobbies are choral singing and being tired.

TwiceMagic · 15/11/2018 17:03

For some reason I find designating stuff one likes doing as a ‘hobby’ vaguely amusing. Everything seems sillier when described that way.

I like Pilates, swimming, watching crap on streaming services and generally pissing about on the Internet. Sometimes I crochet stuff, sometimes I bake, sometimes I do snowsports. Not all at the same time, obviously.

I’ve started cycling but I don’t think it’s a hobby since I just use it as a mode of transport (often quicker to get to work than in the car).

EmmaGeddon · 15/11/2018 17:22

A friend of mine designs and makes costumes for Furries. I reckon her customers are probably mumsnetters. Being a Furry is a pretty niche hobby.

agnurse · 15/11/2018 17:23

I love to sew and would like to get into quilting. Mostly I just do cross stitch, embroidery, and plastic canvas for now. I would also like to take up crochet and knitting.

Hubby enjoys making maps on the computer. He is a fan of alternate history (e.g. Harry Turtledove) and likes to make maps for his own alternate history version of how World War II might have turned out.

Moonflower12 · 15/11/2018 18:02

@Newdadofgirl
You sound like my kind of person. Fine china and Witchcraft!

My hobbies are as above, but also collecting nice fabric that 'one day' I'll turn into lovely dresses.

cragfastsheep · 15/11/2018 18:27

Mine are pretty average - running and reading. Don't do enough of either but love them both.

Newdadofgirl · 15/11/2018 18:32

Thanks @Moonflower12 you can't beat fine china and witchcraft, they compliment each other well lol. I understand the material for dresses thing too, I am similarly afflicted by collecting Welsh blankets for making cushions (though havent actually made any yet)

Governoress86 · 15/11/2018 18:56

My hobbies are crocheting, knitting, card making and quilling along with my PS4 and Mumsnet .

MrsKoala · 15/11/2018 18:59

Tinty - I've suggested dogging instead but apparently jerking off in a layby against a Renault Zafira is much less fun than dressing as a twat and shooting people in the face with plastic rounds.

Jaffa - does yours also spend £££s on custom made clothes and replica weapons which he then gets custom painted? DH only does CQB but he sometimes combines it with LARPing. There was a mall he used to do zombie stuff in but it's closed down now. We have a rule on how often we can talk about it and how long that can go on for, as it would be the only topic of conversation if I didn't stop him. Grin

MawkishTwaddle · 15/11/2018 21:47

Mine are tending my allotment, yoga and reading.

TooOldForThisWhoCares · 15/11/2018 21:52

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 15/11/2018 21:56

Mine's embarrassing, my husband's is football.

Vampiratequeen · 15/11/2018 22:13

Mine is watching tv/films (mainly horror based), reading books and I suppose playing Pokemon Go may count. Wow I was going to say I don't have any.

DarthLipgloss · 15/11/2018 22:32

My DP does an unusual sport/hobby, he also runs a club for it so is well known in its small quite nerdy scene. I think there is a small chance someone else who does same thing would guess its us if I named it. Luckily I have no issues with him doing it, he doesn't spend ridiculous amounts of time or money on it, nor does he seem to be having an affair with one of the few women that do it...so no need to be mention it here at all :)

MaisyPops · 15/11/2018 22:37

I don't post about hobbies but if I did then I'd probably keep it vague or give a false hobby.
More often than not we don't tend to need to know the hobby to be able to help.

Wandastartup · 15/11/2018 22:39

Mine are supermarket shopping & folding pants( well that’s what I spend my day off doing...)
