...to think that if Comic Relief are going to do a "Woman Wednesday" blog about "inspirational female figures", it should have an inspirational female figure in it?

Comic Relief are doing a new weekly blog, about inspirational women.

"Women Wednesday’s is our new weekly column for Gender Justice month here at Comic Relief, where we will be giving the spotlight to one inspirational female figure per week. We focus on women who have created change and spearheaded movements for other women, and stood up against discrimination against gender and sexuality."

Fantastic, right? They've got links to all kinds of amazing women, working in very challenging conditions across the world, who are helping to create a better world for everyone, not just themselves. What a brilliant blog theme! What brilliant, inspirational woman are we all going to learn about today, I wonder?

Well. Here's who they picked as their "inspirational female figure": www.comicrelief.com/news/women-wednesdays-heres-why-lili-elbe-our-inspirational-figure-week

Women deserve better, Comic Relief. You've really screwed up on this one.

I do know a 'trans woman' though in real life and my opinions are based on my experience of this.

Perfectly1mperfect

Try this thread. Most people understand that personal experience informs our opinions.

Thanks, I do have Netflix so will have a look.

Aeroflotgirl · 15/11/2018 12:39

Some of the responses on here are so depressing, Emiline Pankhurst would be turning in her grave. Woman Wednesday is meant to be about inspirational biological women, not ones with a penis, or who are biologically male to fit some trans agenda.

Perfectly1mperfect · 15/11/2018 12:42

Woman Wednesday is meant to be about inspirational biological women

Can I ask where you got that from ? Or is that your opinion ?

Aeroflotgirl · 15/11/2018 12:42

It is the same thing, as the cross dressing man who was Britain's top 100 business women, and the transwoman winning this women's cycle champion despite looking physically stronger and and bigger than the 2 biological women who were 2nd and 3rd. The menz are taking over or sex. We do not see the same happening with transmen (biologcal women), the natal men would put them in their place, they woulden't dare.

Perfectly1mperfect · 15/11/2018 12:42

Datun

Thanks, I'll have a look at the thread.

Aeroflotgirl · 15/11/2018 12:43

It is isen't in Perfectly, a women is a biological Female, where does a penis feature in a Female's anatomy. It said nothing about transwomen.

Aeroflotgirl · 15/11/2018 12:45

Women are just fed up of being trodden on and pushed to the side, by men, and this is another way in which it is happening. It would have been better to feature an inspirational person of the week to include natal men and women as well as trans.

blueskiesandforests · 15/11/2018 12:48

There was a well established "bohemian" movement among artists in sime European cities in the 1920s, of which this person was a part. The wife had no problems declaring herself a lesbian. It was more Oscar Wilde type circles than the working men's club...

Ghanagirl · 15/11/2018 12:50

@LuYu
You’ve hit the nail on the head plus comic relief when first started was unashamed in helping women and children in the developing world where the issues LuYu
still exist.
@Perfectly1mperfect do you honestly not see why most of us on this thread are angry annoyed or disappointed?

RiverTam · 15/11/2018 12:53

LuYu fantastic post. Would you mind sharing it (or me sharing it) on their FB post? It really rams home the point as to why this was such an awful choice.

Perfectly1mperfect · 15/11/2018 12:56

I can see why you are, it's because you don't see trans women as women. Just because I understand your opinion, doesn't mean that I have to agree.

And I still think you should all be telling the posters who say 'November gender bender' etc to shut up as they are what makes people with genuine concerns, who are not anti trans look bad. Tell them to shut up and people would be less likely to think you agree with their rubbish, offensive anti trans agenda.

Ghanagirl · 15/11/2018 13:04

@Perfectly1mperfect
It’s not an opinion that those of born as women and particularly from poor or ethnic backgrounds are more likely to be at risk of all the issues that @LuYu pointed out.
I do think the November comment was rude but you show no interest in those born as women who are still experiencing poverty and violence in the third world or work placed sexism in developed society.
Its now men first then trans women which leaves those of us born female at the bottom again.

IStandWithPosie · 15/11/2018 13:07

I can see why you are, it's because you don't see trans women as women.

Come on now. Nor do you. Let’s be honest, not do they!

StopTheHistrionics · 15/11/2018 13:08

Transmen never get listed in any 'men' lists do they?

Perfectly1mperfect · 15/11/2018 13:10

but you show no interest in those born as women who are still experiencing poverty and violence in the third world or work placed sexism in developed society.

How do my posts show I have no interest in these things. As a human being, of course I do. I have many things I feel very passionately about, just because I haven't discussed them on a mumsnet thread does not mean I am not interested. I believe in equality for all.

jellyfrizz · 15/11/2018 13:10

Female would suggest biological woman.

"Wednesday’s is our new weekly column for Gender Justice month here at Comic Relief, where we will be giving the spotlight to one inspirational female figure per week."

If they don't, they should.

Aeroflotgirl · 15/11/2018 13:18

It would be as insulting as a white person, identifying as a black person, and making themselves look like a black person, and to be nominated inspirational black person of the year.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 15/11/2018 13:20

I'm really sad about Comic Relief, they were one of the good guys Sad

CuriousaboutSamphire · 15/11/2018 13:20

I believe in equality for all.

Then you possibly need to see the 'Standing on Boxes" meme again

Equality for all is, frankly, a shit goal for anyone!

Very well said @LuYu. Fantastic post.

Which very clearly illustrates the point that no matter what you wear, what you call yourself, or how you feel on the inside, the patriachal power imbalance all boils down to whether you were born with a penis or not. As such, someone with a penis cannot ever be female.
